Science Fiction (as opposed to science fantasy, say, or vampire romance) is hard to find these days, so I was pleased to discover this little gem. It's like reading pulp-era space opera, but without the misogyny. I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.

Excellent. I love the way Jack McDevitt weaves history, archeology and space opera together into a story.

This book suprised me in a lot of ways. The scope and mystery of it is breathtaking from start to finish the reader only has but an inkling of what is truely going on and the enemies were a complete shock. Great book.

Mcdevitt writes a good yarn....typically archeology centric, distant future space opera murder mystery stuff. Very good fun reading!

This introduction to the Alex Benedict series is a fast paced engaging novel. It definitely made me hungry for more on the story of this civilization far in the future. I'm looking forward to more of the background on how humanity was able to spread so far out into the galaxy. I also like that hero is not a perfect, hard charging warrior. Alex is an intellectual and reluctant space explorer happier to stay home sell antiquities.

Good yarn, but too drawn out and too much dialog
