With his fiancée in danger, Jake Cardigan is tricked into taking a deadly trip to Brazil
A man in Berlin has just learned something that could save Jake Cardigan’s life. But before he can pass on this vital information, he dies under suspicious circumstances—setting off a chain reaction that will change Cardigan’s life forever, threatening to destroy every person he loves. Cardigan’s fiancée, Beth, goes to Berlin to testify against the ruthless drug cartel controlled by Sonny Hokori and the Teklords. Cardigan plans to be there to protect her against the nefarious assassins of the Teklords, but an urgent case calls him to Rio. By the time he realizes the Brazilian case is no more than a set-up to take him away from Beth, it may be too late to save her—and prevent a new round of TekWars from engulfing the earth.  This ebook features an illustrated biography of William Shatner including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s estate.

Beth Kittridge, Jake Cardigan's girlfriend, has to go to Berlin to testify against one of the most dangerous TekLords of all. Jake vows to stay by her side, but an informant in Brazil is ready to talk . . . only to Jake. Soon Jake will make the biggest mistake of his life--and no one can escape his vengeance. A series of TV movies will be based on the Tek books.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In this latest entry (after TekLab ) in the hard-boiled 21st-century mystery series by the well-known Star Trek actor, PI Jake Cardigan is lured to Brazil on a phony case, leaving his fiancee unprotected as she waits to testify against the TekLords, a group of international crime czars. Her murder brings Jake back to California to exact revenge and protect his son, who is the TekLords' next target. Cardboard characters spouting would-be clever dialogue do nothing to disguise the fact that the novel is woefully short on action and totally lacking a sense of danger or tension. Save for a few androids and laser guns scattered here and there, the setting could as easily be 1920 as 2020. The series, which had a spark of sorts at first, has definitely lost it by now. ( Jan. )
Library Journal
The fourth outing for 21st-century private investigators Jake Cardigan and Sid Gomez strands the duo in Brazil as disaster strikes in Berlin. Shatner's snappy pacing improves with every story, but his villainous drug lords are beginning to wear thin. Purchase this title where the series is popular or where there is patron demand. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 9/1/92.

The fourth of Shatner's Jake Cardigan novels is notably superior to its predecessors. While Jake is on his way to Brazil to track down a long-missing reporter, his girlfriend Beth Kittridge is assassinated in Berlin by a conspiracy of the Tek lords determined to prevent her from completing her father's work on anti-Tek devices--and also as vengeance against Cardigan. Jake and his partner, Gomez, must pursue the killers across a future Germany drawn with biting satirical edge, and Jake's son Dan (who, as he grows up, is growing closer to his father) becomes more directly involved than in the previous books. Shatner's balancing of action and character is improving, and his satire and pacing haven't fallen off. Tek fans will generate strong demand for this one.
