Best historical fiction I have ever read. It is factually accurate and totally absorbing. It takes place in the Frankfurt Ghetto in the 1700s at a time when Jews were treated as one step above vermin. Nevertheless, they lead rich, passionate lives within the confines of the ghetto. It gives an insight into the growth and evolution of the ghetto and the society within through the decades. The characters are so alive that I still miss them even though I read the book over a month ago.
I can't believe it is not on the bestseller list!
