Overview

A seaside-set paranormal mystery-from the authors of the Renaissance Faire mystery Ghastly Glass

Meet Dae O'Donnell, a woman with a gift for finding lost things-and the stories behind lost lives...

Dae O'Donnell is the mayor of Duck, North Carolina-and the person everyone turns to when they've lost something. One touch and Dae can find it, and missing pieces seem to find their way to her, whether she wants them to or not.

When Miss Mildred asks Dae to find her missing watch, Dae finds herself looking for more than mislaid jewelry-she must prove the town matriarch isn't a cold-blooded killer.

    I Also Recommend:

    Unique Plot, Very "Cozy"

This is the debut of the "A Missing Pieces Mystery" by Joyce and Jim Lavene. They have authored other mystery series but "Timely Vision" was their first I have read. The plot was interesting but even though I read mostly cozies, I found this one to be a little mundane. The unique bases of Mayor Dae O'Donnell, owner of cursorily shop with firm rules of resale was interesting. Dae's gift of finding things, up to this point, has been mainly one used for lost or misplaced items of friends and residents of Duck, NC. Though it does seem she perhaps might be expanding her gifting with numerous insights we saw glimpses of in the debut. The setting of Duck, coastal NC small tourist town, near the Outer Banks is lovely. Like most small towns, she has many friends that have known her and her history forever. Which makes for an interesting cast of characters to be developed. Her Dad, whom she lives with in the family home is the retired Chief of Police of Duck and their relationship is very close. A new man in town, new owner of the historic Blue Whale Inn, Kevin Brickman, is no doubt becoming very interested in Dae so expect to see more of him in the future. His background as an FBI agent will lend well to the mysteries. The story was a bit slow but plot line could develop well as the series progresses. I will try the next book before I write this series off.

    Truly Enjoyable

I liked this book and look forward to the next in the series. The characters are believable - not too heavy handed on the paranormal but enough to make it interesting. It should be fun getting to know these characters. Let's not wait a whole year for the next book, please.

    Interesting Premise

This is a fun read with an interesting premise. Mayor Dae O'Donnell can find lost objects by simply touching the owner. This leads her to murder and a mission to exonerate Miss Mildred, who has been falsely accused of the crime. I found this book an enjoyable read and look forward to a sequel.

    A new mystery series!

An enjoyable read and I am looking forward to #2 in the series! I liked the beach setting and the characters were interesting. The main character "finding" lost items is a new twist to a mystery series. Nothing gory or scary but an engrossing mystery.

    winderful amateur sleuth

On the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the village of Duck lives Dae O'Donnell, owner of the Store Missing Pieces. The store contains useful, valuable or kitschy items. She is also the mayor and everyone who knows her knows about her psychosomatic skills that she has used to help her neighbors on Duck.

At the Fourth of July party, Miss Mildred wants Dae to find her missing watch that she gave temporarily to her estranged sister Lizzie. The siblings never got along ever since Wild Johnny Simpson chose Miss Elizabeth over Miss Mildred. Dae sees the witch on Lizzie's hand but no one has seen the woman for days until her body is found buried in sand on the beach. Circumstantial evidence points at Miss Mildred leading to the police arresting her. Dae refuses to accept the official reasoning so, with the help of newcomer former FBI Agent Kevin Brickman, they investigate the homicide.

This opening act of a new amateur sleuth is a wonderful mystery due to memorable eccentric characters including Duck. The whodunit is complicate enough to keep readers entertained and stymied as to who killed the sister. The heroine is sassy and spunky as she expects justice to occur. Joyce and Jim Lavene have shagged another hit series.
