Readers will be enthralled by the perfectly flawed protagonists of this heart-pounding romantic thriller, the second in Humphreys’s McGuire Brothers contemporary series (following Brave the Heat). Maddy Morgan fled tiny Old Brookfield for Manhattan, hoping to start a new life away from memories of her deceased boyfriend. Becoming a successful real estate agent, she immerses herself in work. But no matter how much she tries to run from her former life, there’s a constant reminder: NYPD K-9 officer Ronan McGuire. Ronan has wanted Maddy since high school, but she was involved with his friend. She doesn’t want to be in a relationship, so Ronan settles for being just her friend, stifling his physical and emotional attraction to her. When a serial killer targets women in Maddy’s profession, Ronan makes it his mission to protect her at all costs; Maddy insists on every possible degree of independence. Soon, they find themselves caught between the need for safety and the risky desires of their hearts. Readers will swoon over Ronan, and dog fanciers will especially appreciate his delightful canine companion, Bowser. A choice of suspects, each with clear motives, and a few red herrings make this sexually charged whodunit a deeply satisfying read. Agent: Jeanne Forte Dube, Forte Associates. (Aug.)

This is the first book by this author that I have read it was so much fun I totally enjoyed it. The author gives you a story you can really sink your eyes into giving you a page turner from the suspense to the touching heartwarming romance. Maddy’s boyfriend died on his job as a firefighter. Losing him and with the memories he left behind it was more than she could handle she left her home and moved to NY. On getting there she meets up with a long time friend she grew up with Ronan who is part of the K-9 unit. Maddy doesn’t know it since she only had eyes for one man but Ronan has always had a crush on her. As their friendship grows it turns into more. Maddy who dearly loved her boyfriend has gone through her mourning period but is she ready for a new love? They find they are thrown together as they go home to be part of their best friend’s wedding. They grow closer together as their jobs entwine there is a killer on the loose who is stalking realtors which puts Maddy in the line of fire since she is a realtor. I love the suspense the author throws in as well as the sweet dog who is Ronan partner. I just love a good K-9 story where you get to see the office work with the dog trying to solve a crime. The author really out does herself with the sweet heartwarming story. The buildup of the romance is so touching it warms your heart as these two works together to bring a serial killer to justice. The author gives a compelling story with scenes you can picture in your mind. I had no trouble relating to the characters that goes from friends to lovers. My husband and I started out this way being the best of friends when elements pushed us closer we couldn’t help but fall in love. I am always a sucker for this type of story. The supporting characters are people you will fall in love with along with the small town life people with values. The author gives you details of the past and present that really pulls the reader in giving you a page turn that grabs your attention and holding it. This might have been the first book I have read of this author but it sure won’t be the last. If you haven’t read anything by this author I hope you pick this story up and give it a try you won’t be disappointed. Book Obsessed Chicks Review

Maddie Morgan, moved to NYC to start her life over when she lost her fiancee. She has become a successful realtor to the rich and successful. Ronan is a NYC cop in the canine unit, who is old friends with Maddie's family. They are brought together when a serial killer begins to target real estate agents and they also have to serve in wedding party for Ronan's older brother Gavin. As they become reacquainted, they realize that the other is more than a friend. How does it end.... with awesome action sequence... but I wouldn't want to say more and spoil it. This is a fun romance that perfectly balances suspense and romance. I was very entertained by the funny dialogue, Bowser the dog, and was very happy the the ending. I was given a free copy for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of Ms. Humphreys. With each book I get hooked even more. This is the 2nd book in the series but you do not need to read it in order unless you are like me and love too. Ronan and Maddy are such great characters. I love story lines that drag me in and before you know it you have been reading an hour. You have it all in this one. Intrigue, romance, a hot cop, and a dog. Sigh... Loved it!!

: 4.25 stars--TROUBLE WALKS IN is the second installment in Sara Humphreys’s contemporary, adult THE MCGUIRE BROTHERS romance series. This is K-9 unit police officer Ronan McGuire, and real estate agent Maddy Morgan’s story line TROUBLE WALKS IN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary although for backstory I recommend reading the series in order. Told from dual third person perspectives (Ronan and Maddy) TROUBLE WALKS IN is a friends to lovers trope that focuses on the building relationship between real estate agent Maddy Morgan, and police officer Ronan McGuire. One year earlier Maddy’s long-time boyfriend Rick was killed on the job (Brave the Heat), so our heroine took off for New York hoping to leave the memories and grief behind only to find herself getting reacquainted with Ronan McGuire-a friend from back home and a man who has loved Maddy from afar. What ensues is the slow build of a relationship between friends, and the investigation into a serial killer targeting high-end real estate agents. For months the relationship between Maddy and Ronan has never gone beyond their weekly run and coffee but Ronan wants something more with Maddy as he has pined after our heroine for a number of years. Maddy believes to enter into a romantic relationship is a slap in the face to Rick, and isn’t willing to cross the ‘invisible’ line from friendship to love. As the holidays approach, Ronan convinces Maddy that to spend time alone is tragic, and makes plans to take the next step in their building relationship. Maddy Morgan is a successful, independent woman who struggles with the continuous mixed signals from the man with whom she is falling in love. Ronan’s love for Maddy never waivers in the face of her ongoing grief and inability to let go of the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and romantic without the over the top graphic sexual imagery. TROUBLE WALKS IN has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Gavin and Jordan (Brave The Heat #1), parents Carolyn and Charles McGuire, as well as the remaining McGuire siblings-Tristan, Dillon and Finn. We are introduced to several of Maddy’s co-workers and boss; Ronan’s K-9 partner Bowser, and his superior officer who is determined to help Ronan find a relationship interest. The world building continues to focus on family and friendship as well as the search for a serial killer who is targeting real estate employees. Throughout the story, several suspects begin to emerge and Maddy’s self-imposed isolation makes her a perfect target. The perpetrator is easily deduced early in the story line. TROUBLE WALKS IN is a story with a little bit of romance, intrigue, suspense and fun. The premise is entertaining, amusing and dramatic; the characters are passionate and confident; the romance is sensual and passionate. TROUBLE WALKS IN is an entertaining read with great family dynamics and palpable sexual energy.

I think I have been waiting for Trouble Walks in since I finished Brave the Heat. Sara Humphreys has a way of capturing the reader, moving them through a mirade of emotions, keeping them on the edge of their seat not only an amazing HEA, but an added bonus of suspense and mystery. This is the story of Ronan and Maddy. Ronan McGuire is a New York City K-9 officer. With his partner Bowser, they are the best in the search and rescue business. When childhood friend and the girl he has been crushing on since he was in school moves from their sleep little home town to the big city, Ronan makes it his mission to protect her, and if he can get her out of her shell and into his arms even better. Maddy Morgan lost the love of her love in a tragic accident. Still feeling the sting of his loss, she moves to New York City to get away from the memories, to get away from the looks of pity from friends and loved ones. Wanting to be as far away from home as possible. When Ronan starts making it a habit of dropping in, showing up, giving her a shoulder to cry on and ear to listen, Maddy start to wonder if the grade school crush that she once had on "Make-out McGuire" could blossom into so much more. A string of murders has Ronan worried about Maddy safety, has him keeping secrets from her for her own protection. When Maddy suddenly disappears, Ronan will have to put the pieces together and find Maddy quickly before she is taken away from him for good. What I loved most about this book is the humor and the connection that Ronan and Maddy have. They push each others buttons, they flirt, they dance around the attraction that they have for each other. Ronan only wants to see Maddy smile again, a real smile, not the fake one that she put in place for the world to see. I love the conversation between Ronan and his brother, how he is finally able to admit to himself that he love-likes Maddy. Maddy is afraid that it is too soon after Rick's death to get involved in another relationship, but when she admits to her best friend that while she loved Rick, she did not have the feelings for him that she feels for Ronan, it is beautiful. When these to finally admit it to each other....all I can say is WOW! This book has hot brothers, strong women, suspense and an amazing HEA. I cannot wait for the next brother to fall. Another amazing addition to this wonderful series.

Romance, suspense, a hot cop, cute dog and an awesome heroine? Sign me up!! Trouble Walks In is the second book in the McGuire brothers series and it can be read as a stand alone but reading Brave the heat first introduces you to some of the characters in this book. I loved Ronan and Maddy's story and the suspense had me turning the pages. I can't wait for the next book and for the next brother to fall in love! I would definitely recommend this book!!

Trouble Walks In is the second book of The McGuire Brothers series. I loved this story and you will also! The book can be read as a stand alone, but it helps to have read the first book, Brave The Heat so you are familiar with the characters. Ronan McGuire is a New York City K-9 police officer. His specialty is doing search and rescue with his dog Bowser. Maddy Morgan is a New York City real estate agent. She has decided to move to the city after the heartbreak of her boyfriend's death. She needed a change to try to help her move on with her life. Following Maddy's move, Ronan starts to spend time with her. He doesn't mind especially since he has had a crush on her since they were in school. They get along great and enjoy each others company. Maddy also joing the McGuire family back home for the wedding of Ronan's brother Gavin and her best friend Jordan over Christmas. She enjoys spending time with the family and she and Ronan get closer. There are a series of murders that involve women in the real estate industry. Ronan has experience with this case, advises Maddy to be extra careful and is worried about her. After her agency's holiday party, Maddy disappears. Ronan and Bowser have to find her before it's too late. I really enjoyed the relationship between the characters. Ronan and Maddy click from the beginning, even though she is trying to fight it. She feels guilty moving on from her loss, but she realizes that it is necessary. As she tells Ronan, she is living again. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!

A romantic suspence novel that will knock your socks off. Ronan is an amazing cop with a bit of a reputation. But he is still amazing, especially when he is with his family. Ronan has been working with the K-9 unit for a few years and as a result he feels fulfilled. But before he went home for the summer he had a new women every Saturday night. Now all he thinks about is Maddy. But is his infatuation still taking place at the wrong time like it did all those years ago when they were still in highschool? Maddy lost the man she has been with for the past decade a year ago, as a result she is a shell of the women she once was. Now that she has been hanging out with Ronan and is finally starting to feel happy once again, will she be able to move past her old hurts about her recently lost flame? When a serial killer enters the picture and starts to kill women in Maddys field of work will Ronan be able to keep her safe enough to persue their hopeful relationship. This was a great read, with amazing characters, and a great plot. You will not want to miss this book by Ms Humphrey. ~A book obsessed chicks review team selection

Maddy Morgan lost the love of her life eighteen months ago, and since then she has struggled to find a way to move on without him, and with the constant reminders of him everywhere she turns she makes the decision to leave her hometown for Manhattan. Knowing the city will give her the escape she needs, no one will know her past, and she can just blend in and exist in a world she is struggling to find her way in again. What she doesn't count on is running into an old friend from high school, there was always an interest there for her with him, but she ultimately chose a different path... this time though her only intention with him is friendship, now she just has to find a way to keep it that way! Ronan McGuire has always been good with the ladies, never having a problem luring one into his bed for a little no strings attached fun here and there. He has no intention of tying himself down anytime soon, he enjoys his life the way that it is, but when he unexpectedly runs into "the one that got away" he starts to sing a different tune. Having an opportunity to possibly win her heart back changes everything for him, but this time he knows he needs to approach her with caution as she is battling some demons of her own, so he offers her the one thing she needs the most right now...friendship. Now he just has to figure out how to convince her that they deserve a shot at something more. This was my first time reading a book by Ms. Humphrey's, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with it, it kept me on my toes the whole way through. I definitely foresee myself reading more from her in the very near future!! This suspenseful and sexy little tale had everything you could want in a story; thrilling mystery, addictive story line, dynamic characters with explosive chemistry, and some toe curling romance too!! Turned out to be a impressive first read for me, and one I highly recommend you give a try! 4 1/2 STARS! NYPD K-9 cop Ronan McGuire has had it bad for Maddy Morgan for years, but he never thought he had a chance. When she moves to town and they start hanging out as friends, she’s all he can think about! Maddy has worked hard to make a name for herself in the real estate market in New York City. She enjoys her job and enjoys her friendship with Ronan. When strange happenings start occurring around her work place, will she heed Ronan’s warning and pay more attention to her safety? And when Ronan and his partner are put to task on her behalf, will she end up agreeing to a happily ever after with him?

Loved, loved, loved! I really enjoyed the slow build of the relationship between Ronan and Maddy. I also thought Ronan's character was great. Not the typical alpha badass detective but a truly kind and caring K-9 beat cop. Both Ronan and Maddy are living and working in NYC. He's always been attracted to her but she was taken before so maybe now is his time. He takes it slow though, first building a friendship then asking for more. *sigh* It's a fantastic story with a little suspense thrown in and with the cutest partner ever (you gotta love Bowser) Ronan will win your heart. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

After her long-time boyfriend Rick, a firefighter, died in the line of duty eighteen months ago, Maddy Morgan left Old Brookfield for New York City. A real estate agent, Maddy has made a success of herself in the Big Apple, but in fact she is hiding. She doesn’t know how to start living again, and she’s thankful for Ronan McGuire’s friendship. Although Maddy is very conscious of Ronan’s considerable charms, she will not succumb; it’s too soon after Rick’s death, and Ronan also has a high-risk profession: he is a K-9 cop. A consummate ladies’ man, Maddy is the one who resisted him all those years ago, until she found Rick, and Ronan stepped aside reluctantly, but graciously. Ronan and Maddy are running partners, they really are good friends, and even though Ronan would like more, he won’t push Maddy into anything. Besides if there is one thing Maddy isn’t is a pushover! While writing my review, I noticed that my short summary doesn’t do justice to TROUBLE WALKS IN at all! Ms. Humphreys gives such a fresh twist to the familiar trope, it doesn’t even feel like something we've encountered before, and I think it's because there is not a cliché in sight. The dog, Bowser, is as much a character as the people, never intrusive; the author’s research really paid off, because it all felt so real; Bowser is not a “cute” dog, he’s a working dog all the way, and his work was great to read. Ms. Humphrey’s prose is so effortless and smooth, it’s a pleasure to read, the dialogues are simply excellent, whether between the McGuire siblings, or Maddy and her friends and co-workers, and the banter between Ronan and Maddy is sweet and witty, and their chemistry feels real. I also totally got the feel for both Maddy’s and Ronan’s very different occupations and lives. Ronan is determined that he needs Maddy in his life, and I could hug Sara Humphreys for making him such a delightful hero, so unlike the typical alpha male we too often encounter in romances. Maddy is independent, and doesn’t fear standing up for herself, but she’s not brash or stupidly stubborn. In fact, Ronan and Maddy are just about perfect protagonists for a romance, as far as I’m concerned. There are also two very creepy guys, murders occur, and steamy but classy sex scenes. TROUBLE WALKS IN is an intelligent romance between grown-ups; it’s beautifully written, fast-paced, and I loved every minute of it! A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection
