Meet the Author

Maggie Shayne began her writing career in kindergarten, when she painstakingly copied The Brementown Musicians onto construction paper in full Crayola color, complete with illustrations of her own design, and presented it proudly to her teacher. Of course this was not an exact copy. She had tweaked the story a bit, improving it greatly, in her five-year-old opinion.

By third grade her tastes had matured. At story hour, when it was her turn to choose the book from which the teacher would read, Maggie picked Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, which she proceeded to recite from memory as the teacher began reading. Far from being suitably impressed, Maggie recalls her teacher seemed to pale a bit, and looked at her oddly from then on.

Her fondness for the macabre stayed with her, as did her penchant for rewriting her favorite stories. As a teen, while watching her beloved Universal Pictures Monster Classics over and over, she became more and more certain someone had to fix the endings.

It was so obvious that Dracula, the Wolfman, and the dusty Mummy had been cheated! These were not horror flicks, in her teenage opinion. They were romances.

They portrayed a love that went beyond life itself. But the endings were all wrong. Anyone could see the monster was supposed to get the girl!

Well, one marriage and five daughters later, Maggie has made it her mission in life to see to it that old wrongs are set right.

Her stories range from down-home westerns (Texas Brand miniseries, Silhouette Books) to glitz (Million Dollar Marriage, 8/99) to modern-day fairy tales (her Avon contemporary titles).

But her best love is the genre knownasparanormal romance. And Maggie writes these like no other author. No one else writing today manages to combine the hearts of two such diverse genres as romance and horror, while still thrilling both segments of the readership with the stunning results.

Shamelessly romantic, breathtakingly emotional, chilling in their suspense, with edge-of-the-seat tension, her stories capture the classic allure that makes beauty-and-the-beast tales so beloved—the key, is the redemption of the monster by the sheer power of love.

    more from this reviewer

    Twilight Phantasies

I picked this up as my first book on my new Nook ereader because I somehow got my hands on book 12 in this series and wanted to at least read the first one before reading number twelve. I found it for waaaay to much money online or 2.99 in electronic format...so electronic it was!

Twilight Phantasies is the story of a very special woman named Tamara. Tamara works for a top secret government agency that tracks and studies people with "unusual" abilities. He guardian also works for this agency tracking a vampire named Eric Marquand. Tamara's guardian is quite fanatic in his belief that all vampire's are inherently evil and should be destroyed or made weak so he can study them.

Tamara decides to go ice skating in the middle of the night, she can no longer sleep, and meets the very same man (vampire) that her guardian has been tracking and attempting to capture this whole time. She instantly feels the connection...it's as if their minds were somehow joined.

Needless to say, when her guardian finds out, trouble arises...in many many forms. I throughly enjoyed the story and the characters. The small side plots and characters only brought the main ones to life even more. I've purchased the next couple in the series and I hope they are just as good.

    Not so great.

This books was...what's the word, oh yeah, juvenile. Not that the content can be given to children to read, but it was a stereotypical romance. Alot of corney phrases and sappy moments. I definitley didn't really care for either main character because they just seemed too weak to me. I like the supporting character the best because he wasn't sappy, weak, and/or wishy washy. I don't much carer for books that make situations seem SOOOO unrealistic. Yes, it is a paranormal romance, but that doesn't mean it has to be completely unreal, does it? When reading the book I caught myself rolling my eyes and saying 'oh, please!' over and over. I wouldn't recommend these books to anyone.

Not the worst I've ever read

This is not the worst book I've ever read, but it did make my top five. I read the sample first and thought it seemed good. I was wrong. The male character seemed so monotone to me and the female, my God! I wanted her to die. She was not strong at all. She hardly ever stood up for herself and she let the men in her life pretty much control her. Prime example: One of her 'best' male friends punched her in the face on purpose and she forgave him by saying he was just really angry at the time. Ha! Ummm...NO!
Even though the price was good at $2.98, it still wasn't worth it.

    I Also Recommend:

    nice book

ok so this is not the best book ever but its pretty good when you get into it I dont know if I want to continue with the series or not because for some reason the book gives me a dejavu feeling and thats not a good thing the plot is the best thing about this book as for character personality I'm not really felling it the characters seem almost emotionless but overall I would say give this book a try its not all bad.
