I was originally drawn to the stunning cover of Vampire Shift

I was originally drawn to the stunning cover of Vampire Shift , it really caught my eye. Kiera just stares right through you.

I loved Tim’s odd group of coppers stuck out at The Ragged Cove trying to solve the mysteries of the ever increasing grizzly murders. Murphy the slipper wearing , pipe smoking Sergeant, despite the sign stating , “It’s against the law to smoke on these premises”. Potter the, crime scene contaminating , resident wise crack and forensic specialist and then there is the handsome , 22yr old Constable Luke Bishop, who can disappear on Kiera when she needs him most..... is he friend or foe?
20 yr old police officer, Constable Kiera Hudson upon completion of her initial training is posted at The Ragged Cove . I must admit when I started reading I youtubed ‘On The Floor’ by Jennifer Lopez and listened to it whilst reading the opening chapter as that’s what Kiera was listening to on her car radio, thought I would get into the mood of the book...lol!! But then... her radio failed her...she had entered The Ragged Cove district and I too had to shut off my song, I was really ‘feeling’ this book.. lol!!

Kiera has a gift , she can really ‘see’ her surroundings and sum up a crime scene within minutes, even with Potter carelessly contaminating them. Kiera just goes about her business, nothing really perturbs her. She has a Sherlock Holmes type personality.

I must admit by the end of ‘Vampire Shift’ , I was really liking Potter. He really grew on me, especially when he started saying 'easy tiger' to Kiera...me thinks he is crushing on her..... or not. I am hoping for more Potter in the sequel , ‘Vampire Wake’.

There were scene stealing action / fighting scenes that I could really 'see' as I was reading. Tim writes visually very well. You can see his characters and goings on very clearly.

There are twists and turns all through ‘Vampire Shift’. The couple things I figured out were outweighed by the rather surprising turn of events that Tim threw at the reader. He quite masterfully threw curve balls. I was suitably impressed as I am a reader who reads looking for clues and hints at possible outcomes of a story. I don’t just read. He surprised me several times.

I loved the quirky old lady who owned the Crescent Moon Inn with her crucifixes and bottles of holy water and her not so appealing grotty son, Roland.... the inn chef...eeep!!

Tim’s book has such originality, you truly believe that you are walking around The Ragged Cove and being part of the goings on. He has given a very original take on the Vampire genre which I found very refreshing, mix it with some quirky characters and you have a great page turner.

I could really see this book as a British movie with its odd characters of The Ragged Cove.

    FAVE QUOTE:

“You make sure you do pretty lady, cos that Sergeant of yours couldn’t find his own arse with both hands and a flashlight.”

    You Won't Be Disappointed!

O¿Rourke has done it again, creating an intriguing masterpiece, completely original and captivating. This vampire novel is not like anything I¿ve ever read before, and O¿Rourke¿s combination of police knowledge and vampire lore makes for a riveting new series starring Kiera Hudson, a young aspiring policewoman. Complete with suspense, mystery, and intrigue, Vampire Shift takes the reader on a journey into the depths of The Ragged Cove, a place where many have ventured, but few have returned.

I love that Kiera is a strong female lead, possessing the gift of sight where so many others miss vital clues. An asset to any police force, Kiera comes on the scene in The Ragged Cove only to be met with disdain by the current police force. The fact that Kiera does not crumple and stays true to herself, trusting her instincts, makes her an outstanding, strong character that readers will quickly come to love.

O¿Rourke weaves together a story of horror and romance in this first book of the series, and I cannot wait for the sequel to release. I highly recommend this novel to all readers, both young and old alike. Five stars to this magnificent novel.

After finishing Vampire Shift this morning, I was asking myself

After finishing Vampire Shift this morning, I was asking myself why I hadn't read it months ago. The entire premise of the story is interesting and the heroine Kiera Hudson got more fascinating as the story went on. At her young age, she is so mature in her thought process and her ability to draw conclusions by "seeing" is perfect for someone in law enforcement. As a fan of vampire stories, I like how author Tim O'Rourke worked his mythical magic in this book - very impressed to see a new take on a vampire hybrid. Though Kiera is my favorite character by far, I liked the male character contributions in the story. Am so glad that I have already purchased Vampire Wake and Vampire Hunt - plan to get the rest of series one and then onto the Dead series two. Can't wait to read more from this author!
