    I had been a vegetarian for two years prior to reading this nove

    I had been a vegetarian for two years prior to reading this novel. I admired vegans, but didn’t consider becoming one because I didn’t think eating things like eggs and milk brought harm to animals. Boy was I wrong! I was appalled and horrified to learn of the suffering animals face in dairy and egg farms. Since finishing this novel, I have become completely vegan because I do not want to live a lifestyle that causes other creatures to suffer. Also, I had no idea there were so many health benefits to being vegan. My mom’s side of the family has a bad history of heart disease and my dad’s side has cancer, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that veganism can help prevent both of these health issues. I’m also a big environmentalist, so I was happy that the author discussed the global benefits of a vegan diet. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who eats. Seriously, everyone should read this book to learn the truth about what they put in their body, where it comes from, and how it impacts the world. It is completely eye opening and the author doesn’t try to guilt trip the reader or shove veganism down your throat. Rather, he presents the facts in a simple and entertaining manner and allows the reader to make his or her own decisions from there. The novel is extensively researched and a quick and enjoyable read. Five stars!

    A real eye opener

    After an intense personal loss, I decided to avoid eating animals in any form for three months. After reading this book, I have remained vegan for nine months and have no plans to reesume eating meat or dairy products. Mr. Marcus explains the basics of veganism and how following an animal free diet can can make a contribution to global improvement. It's easy to eat a vegan diet as there are so many wonderful foods available. And this book also gives you the tools to defend your choice of diet when people in the lunch room start harrasing you about eating 'leaves and twigs.'

    A great book

    This book illustrates the benefits of veganism to the environment, to our health and to the animals that are silently tortured. No exaggerations or fanaticism necessary, just facts and witnesses. I am purchasing several additional copies of this book to lend out, these are important issues that we all have a responsibility to know about and act upon.

    Meat eating is fine

    I am a complete carnivore, I would say my diet is 60 percent meat. However tht doesn't mean that I agree with large scale farms like the ones that keep chickens in tiny pens where they can hardly move, what I believe should happen is that humans should only eat animals that have been raised humanely and ethically. I also hunt and that made think that if meat is murder, I am a serial killer and I'm not one bit sorry!! I know that the healthiest lifestyle should be patterned after what omnivorious animals eat and as such I could never be a vegan do to the fact that it is unhealthy and also vegan people are always super skinny and pale. Creepy!! If you are a vegan, don't be offended by what I am saying and know this: God has always had us in charge of animals, before white people got here Indians had been hunting for thousands of years. I think it would best be explained in a story: New York state has few or no large predators like bear, mountain lion or wolves. As such the deer population is far more than the land can support. Now I understand that it's our fault the bears and wolves and stuff are gone and as such it's our responsibility to make sure the deer don't overeat their habitat. The only way to do this is for the last predator in the state to step in: humans. When hunters begin to thin the herds the remaining animals are brought into balance with the ecosystem. Now you may argue that hunters sometimes wound a deer and the deer gets away. Voila you're right! That does sometimes happen, but it happens just like when a wolf wounds one but the deer gets away. The wounded animal becomes something for the smaller predators that can't kill a healthy deer, like bobcats, coyotes, etc. Then you may argue that sometimes the deer dies but it takes forever and the deer is in misery the whole while. Well the deer may feel pain, but does that make a hunter anymore cruel than a komodo dragon who kills by biting the deer and poisoning it over hours before it dies..... So you see people who eat meat are just another large carnivore in an ecosystem. But wait, don't trophy hunters just take the head. Well I can't speak for everyone but all the hunters I've talked to said that they would take the meat as well. If your still hesitating then I suggest that you go out to dinner and order a bacon cheeseburger. You won't taste anything that good that isn't meat I'll tell you that!! Thank you for reading and let hunting continue until the end of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Amazing book!

    This book revolutionized my way of thinking. Its a very factual book of not only animal care concerns, but a clear and informative healthcare piece as well! I LOVE this book!

    Eye opening

    A must read to be informed of the truth about the animal food industry. Although it does contain health info it is not a guide on how to eat vegan.

    For the vegan-interested, and the vegan-already

    This book is exactly what I was hoping to find the day I purchased it at B&N. I was looking for a book that could educate me on what exactly a vegan lifestyle looks like, as well as how this lifestyle would impact the animals and myself. I was rather surprised to learn about the other big reason people take the plunge, that being its effects on our earth. The book is presented in a very reader-friendly manner, laying out the facts and organizing the sections so that the books' purpose is clearly defined. Another fun aspect to Vegan is the stories of people who transformed their lives to take on a vegan lifestyle and the reasons why they took this route, as well as information about organizations which thrive off of protecting animals and our planet. I like to think of them as the unsung heroes, keeping life running smoothly. READ on...you'll see what I mean.

    Wonderful

    This book was a real eye opener to me about becoming vegan. Before I read this book I was a vegetarian. After I finished the book, I decided to become a vegan. It's a really powerful and informative book. Some of the information regarding inhumanity to animals is disturbing but society needs to hear exactly what happens to the animals on factory farms. Wonderful book!!
