Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Freddy's cousins, Kelly and Kasey, are coming to visit for Christmas, and Freddy knows, from past experiences, that anything can happen when the twin sisters are around. He tells the story about the happenings with his cousins as Freddy, his sister Suzie, and his parents try to experience their holiday traditions. It begins when they are having some hot chocolate, and Kasey sprays whipped cream on Freddy's chin. More little high jinks follow when they visit the tree farm to cut down a tree. When they make gingerbread cookies, Kelly sprinkles flour in her hair so that it will look like their grandma's hair. When the oven starts smoking, they find out that Kelly had put her snow boots in the oven to help them dry. Kasey leaves food for the reindeer by sprinkling granola on the stairs. Then on Christmas morning the twins are found sleeping behind the Christmas tree so that they can see Santa. Nothing really outlandish happens, but the story contains some cute mishaps revolving around congenial family members. It's a cheerful and pleasant story for the holiday season and for readers who enjoy the "Ready, Freddy!" series. This book is appropriate for children who are just beginning to read chapter books. The sentences are written in a style that should enable the reader to easily understand and follow the story. There are some nice drawings throughout the book. The word "fin" is hidden in every picture. Also included are "Freddy's Fun Pages" that contain information about stingrays, a gingerbread cookie recipe, a few Christmas jokes, and directions for making a mini Christmas tree using a pinecone.
