    'The readers were waiting. Waiting for hours. Waiting for something interesting to happen.'

    This is my first John Saul book. While it won't be my last, I won't be re-reading When the Wind Blows. I found the general progression of this novel to be fair. There was typical suspense scattered throughout the piece, yet the true action was unloaded during the last five chapters. While I did not hate When the Wind Blows, I did not particularly enjoy it either. I have read much better books, far more thrilling and suspenseful than this. I certainly would not classify this as 'horror' by any means. It isn't a ghost story either, as the excerpts, front and back covers, and publisher's notes imply. The main terror of the book lies within the character of Diana, Christie Lyons' caretaker after Christie's parents die. Having been oppressed by her own mother Edna, who is elderly and still exerting her control over Diana, Diana inflicts the same behavior onto her 'child,' Christie. The emotional state of Diana teeters between multiple personality disorder and sheer insanity. This I felt was the only aspect of When the Wind Blows that was horrific. Saul develops the characters well, yet the action falls short. Things aren't explained thoroughly and I found myself re-reading parts of the book to see if I had missed something. There are several loose ends that need to be tied up and the reader's imagination just cannot assume the role of this task; Saul simply fails to include all the elements. The book was a fair read and it went quickly. I just didn't have much of an interest in all the drama going on in between the children. Much of the book focuses solely on the character of Christie and her nine-year-old buddies. I personally did not have too much in common with youngsters. I felt that this plot was trivial and could be classified as a mediocre young-adult fiction novel. As the story progresses, the ending is predictable. Overall, When the Wind Blows is a decent book. It is just missing something. I would rather had spend my week reading something that actually scared or challenged me.

    So sad

    This book was really fun to read. It was gripping, and always kept you guessing. The ending was almost sad, because it wasn't quite made clear to you that the horror was truly over.

    Love John Saul

    I really liked this book. Most of John Saul's books I would give 5 stars, but this one I gave 4 stars. It is a good book, but John Saul has done better.

    Must Read

    If you like mystery and old legends this is the book for you. The book is based on a 300 year old story about a house on top of a hill that has not had any children living in it until, you guessed it 300 years later. The people that live there are trying to stop the souls of the children from haunting the house. A must read. Wonderful writer!!!!!!!!

    A terrifying crie

    This book is a great for your kids into mystery and terror. This book has an unsolved indian tale finally solved 300 years after it began. The only people that know about it are the ones trying to stop it.
