Overview

A truly inspiring adventure set in the Alaskan gold rush - 1890. Elizabeth Breckenridge sets sail for Alaska in search of her missing brother; but when disaster strikes and she falls overboard, it is a man very unlike her minister brother who comes to the rescue… Clint Brady is a cynical bounty hunter who shoots to kill, but together he and Elizabeth will have to put aside their differences in order to survive the beautiful yet unforgiving Alaskan frontier. However, we soon learn that the past would prove a much more sinister enemy to the pair than any harsh terrain. This is a first time regular print hardcover previously available in a mass market edition.

Editorial Reviews

Booklist
No longer welcome at the San Francisco church where her father was minister, Elizabeth Breckenridge decides her only choice is to join her brother in Alaska, where he is preaching God's word. With her conviction that God will see her through her journey, she takes passage on a boat filled with prospectors and fallen women. Providentially, bounty hunter Clint Brady is also keeping his eye on the young woman. When Elizabeth falls overboard, Clint rescues her, and when they reach Skagway, Elizabeth returns the favor as Clint falls ill. Rather than leave her at the mercy of unscrupulous prospectors, Clint decides to take Elizabeth to the town of Dawson, where her brother has his church. On their journey, Elizabeth searches for a way to bring Clint closer to God as they struggle to survive the arduous mountain trail. Bittner has penned a religious romance filled with Christian references and Bible quotes as well as adventure.
Library Journal
Driven from her late father's San Francisco church by the next pastor's lies, Elizabeth Breckenridge heads for Alaska to join her brother and finds totally unexpected love with bounty hunter Clint Brady in this Scripture-laced, Alaskan Gold Rush adventure that was originally published in paperback by Steeple Hill (Harlequin) in 2004.

    Kind of Corney

I picked this one up because I had read a few of Rosanne Bittners books before and really enjoyed them.

The plot for this one was good and the character development kept me turning the page, but overall its a little too sappy for my taste. There is absolutely NO sex, so you can hand this one off to your young readers and not worry about that, of course for your older readers it leaves alot to be desired.

    Astonished

This book was amazing. When I first started reading, I din't know if it was a book that i could read but, as I continued reading I absoloutely fell in love with it especially Clint. I have always been a history buff and i enjoy reading books based in the 1800's my aunt gave me this book to read when I first started showing an advid intrest in reading and books (I am only 15yrs old) so i have to say that this book is amazing and the author really portrayed the characters as people that we can get into and think and really feel what they are going through especially when Clint and Elizabeth are traviling in the winter through snow and hardships that we today don't have to face and i really got into the book and felt for the characters. this book was an awsome read i've read it three time so far....I think Bittener should continue with Clint and Elizabet's story as well as the other characters like Peter and Summer as well as Collette.

    great read

This was a wonderful story. I especially liked the hero, Clint. Rosanne Bittner knows how to write realistic characters. I liked her portrayal of a bounty hunter--not shying away from the fact that he smokes, cusses, and kills men for a living, despite the fact that this is an inspirational romance. She is also not afraid of the difficult issues confronting a man who blames God for the death of his wife and small son, nor of showing how an innocent, much younger, devout woman deals with them. The best scene in the book is the conversation the hero and heroine have right after they've confessed their love for each other.

    Inspiring romance

In 1898 San Francisco, Elizabeth Breckenridge is irate with the pious judges of her congregation that condemn her based on the word of the two faced Reverend Selby. The self-righteous men believe she is just a weak female while Selby is a man of God, who took her in as a daughter when her mother followed her father to heaven. Liz, Selby, and God know the truth, but since she is condemned by the leaders, she informs them that she will join her brother Peter in Dawson, Yukon Territory and pray that God forgives them.............................. Almost immediately, Liz finds out how dangerous the trek is as thugs try to steal her purse. Bounty hunter Clint Brady rescues her. To her shock, she finds the caustic cynic appealing even though he scoffs at her when she says God will protect her. As the trek north continues, Liz wonders if in some mysterious way God has sent her Clint as her beloved ¿guardian¿ angel. The doubting Clint falls in love with Liz, but believes he is not good enough for such a pious believer while vengeance holds his heart in chains...................................... The perils of Pauline add excitement to a vivid late nineteenth century romance that fans will comprehend who is rescuing who in this warm inspirational tale. Liz is a terrific protagonist struggling with the betrayal of weak minded men only to find a courageous angry with God male owns her heart. Clint is a lot more complex than the caring Liz as he has four years of disbelief suddenly thrown at him when he falls in love with a Godly woman. Fans will appreciate this inspirational North to Alaska romance................................... Harriet Klausner
