Banks’s fourth Kelly Group International (KGI) romantic thriller (after Hidden Away) introduces a speculative element. Nathan Kelly, captured and tortured, finds himself in telepathic contact with a mysterious woman named Shea, who helps him survive and engineers his escape. Once free, Nathan finds himself unable to explain matters to his highly trained family and the top-secret, globe-trotting paramilitary organization they operate. When he takes the family jet and flies off to rescue Shea from the kidnappers chasing her, the Kelly family bond pulls in the rest of the KGI team. Banks enhances Nathan and Shea’s romantic attraction and physical intimacy with the telepathic bond, and as their relationship gets satisfyingly steamy, the action remains tense, perilous, and convincing. The mystery of Shea’s abilities and her equally talented sister, Grace, promises plenty of material for future KGI books. Agent: Trident Media Group. (Jan.)

Whispers in the Dark is one of the most emotional books I have read in a long time¿in such a good way. Nathan and Shea are connected on such an intimate level both by their telepathic link and their similar experiences of capture and torture. It is portrayed so strongly in this story you will feel as connected with Nathan and Shea as if you share their bond. I can¿t recommend this book to you strong enough. This will be one of those books that you tell all your friends about, but there¿s no way you¿re loaning them your copy.

I read books 1 - 3 in one day, this one did not keep me engaged. The premise was hard for me to get behind after the ground work of the first three books i the series. I looking forward to the rest of the series and appreciate how the characters we grow attached to in each book continue to have a role and history in each book.

Possibly the best of the series. I now occupy my thoughts wondering which actors should play whom in the movie. (If there were one).

This is the first KGI book that I have read, and I loved it so much that I have now gone back and bought the rest of the series. These books are a series, but you don't feel lost if you pick up any of the books.

This book blew my mind away. I was expecting an easy, entertaining read for the weekend. It ended up being a thrilling story with an amazing love story based on the telephatic connection of the main characters. I thought the telephatic theme would make the story cheesy and less believable, but it was the opposite. Beautifully written, rich in characters and deeply engaging. Just bought the three previous books in the KGI series to learn more about the other Kelly brothers.

Beautiful book! Nathan is perfect! I thought impossible to make a book as beautiful as the first one in this series. I'm glad I was wrong. This book is so beautiful! The bond betwen Nathan and Shea is so strong. The family love so well described. I was a little suspicious about it (because the thelephaty thing), but it was so well and beautiful writed, that I'm glad that I bought it.

WOW!! I've never read a Maya Banks book that I didn't LOVE and this is no exception! I knew I would love the Kelly family the minute Maya started sharing them with us and Nathan and Shae's story is perfect and my favorite in the series so far! I literally sat on the edge of my seat reading this book. The action is intense and the emotional ties and bonds between not only Nathan and Shea but the entire Kelly family is amazing. Get yourself a box of Kleenex, a comfy chair and some snacks because once you start reading this book you will not put it down! BRAVO Maya.....you did good with this one!

I loveddd it! It was so emotional and the love was so strong from the moment Shea entered Nathan's mind. I was so enthralled that I was shaking. I can't wait for Rio and Grace! I just know it's going to be just as good. I love Maya Banks! And absolutely OBSESSED with the KGI Series. :) Amazing. Just Amazing.

## This book was FABULOUS. Maya Banks is a freaking genius. I have read all of the books of the KGI series and loved all of them, but this one was spectacular. I normally don't read stories that include telepathy or anything paranormal, however I did because it was part of this amazing series. Thank goodness I did. What an awesome read. The hero and heroine have electrifying chemistry and an incredible bond. The suspense was heartpounding and the romance was sweet and special. And as always the brothers are hilarious. My only wish is that Ms. Banks could write faster.......READ THIS BOOK

Oh man I had typed up a long review and then bn ate it. :-( Basically, I said that Ms. Banks never leaves me feeling unsatisfied. All of the heroes that she writes about in all of her books are strong men that will do anything to protect the women in their lives. I've fallen in love with each of the KGI men and have reread the first 3 books numerous times and plan on doing that with Nathan's book as well. If you enjoy action packed romance novels with strong men and women and you enjoy both laughing and feeling close to tears then you have to read Maya Banks especially her KGI series. On a personal note I love the connection to TN and Ft. Campbell. I grew up in Clarksville and met my husband when he was stationed at Campbell.

So far i love this series. Have to skip over sentences because the kellys can worry a subject to death before they change the subject or do sonething about.. repetiion repetion. The childish cursing does nit make an alpha male. Therefore, by skipping over re petion and vulgar cursing, the story is great! Love the sex scenes and the gentleness tho.

What a gripping and compelling story! Banks took me on an excitingly fast paced journey with twists and turns that I’d never fathomed possible. I love the way that she melded reality with something just a little more to make a new reality that was not only believable but completely possible. The bits of background information as to how this all came about gave me chills. Intertwined with the heated romance between the main characters and the action packed, suspenseful plot the whole was something that I simply couldn’t put down. Nathan and Shea were a fantastic couple for this story. Nathan’s complete and utter conviction in Shea and his family painted a wonderful picture of who he was. Backed up by his strength, both physically and of character, and Banks has given us a hero that I won’t soon be able to forget. Shea’s need for normalcy yet her desire to keep everyone else safe made me feel very close to her. Surrounded by the Kelly clan and the rest of the KGI operatives Banks has created a cast of characters that drew me into the action and made me feel as if I were part of the story. This was by far my favourite KGI novel so far. Banks had me hopping from cover to cover with this one and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

5 star The story has laughs, suspense, secrets, abuse, hostage, pain, grief, and heartbreak. If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) No Place to Run (KGI #2) Hidden Away (KGI #3) This is Shea and Nathan’s story. Nathan is being held and tortured. One day he hears a voice in his mind. He wonders if he is losing it. Shea can feel Nathan’s despair and helps him and his friend escape the camp. She gets his brother’s information that gets him rescued. After he is reunited with his brother’s he can no longer hear Shea in his mind. Now back home he is moody and wonders if he is crazy for ever hearing the voice. Shea is on the run from people who want to use her gift for other things. She blocked Nathan out so he can’t feel her suffering. When she escapes the people who were holding her she calls out for Nathan. He goes and gets her but she is still not safe. Can they figure what is after her and her sister before it’s too late or will they get her again? If she is captured again will she break? If she reaches her breaking point will they ever get her back? I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Whispers in the Dark is the 4th in the KGI series by Maya Banks. This book made me drop everything and refuse to leave the house until I was done. Amazing storytelling, character details/backstory, action...just everything was outstanding. This is my favorite book in the series....so far!!!! I love all the brothers, but Nathan just tugs at my heart. The story line was just clever, what an amazing writer. I'm looking forward to the 5th book!!

Overall Rating: 3.90 Action: 4.0 / Emotion: 3.0 / Romance: 4.5 / Sensuous: 2.0 / Suspense: 3.5 // Laughter: 1 / Giggle: 2 // Tears: 0 / Teary: 0 Whispers In The Dark:  3.90: An exciting, entertaining, enjoyable, quick read.  This book was more adventurous than the previous three books in the series, but Banks failed, again, to make that deep emotional connection between the reader and the protagonists. Hero: 3.0: Nathan Kelly: a hero who demanded great compassion at first as he suffered torture at the hands of his captives and then frustration because he seemed to blend right in with his other indistinguishable Kelly brothers.  Would have liked more of an action hero than a man spouting words of love to his soul mate. Heroine: 3.5: Shea Peterson: a heroine who was willing to accept the pain of an unknown warrior as her own when her special gift of telepathy revealed his suffering.  Shea was portrayed as having a strong will and was willing to fight for her loved ones. Story Line: 4.0: Although unbelievable, the telepathy angle was interesting.  Enjoyed the way that Nathan and Shea connected on a deep level when they initially communicated via telepathy.  Liked the way that Nathan came running when Shea needed help to evade her captors.  Banks, however, left several threads dangling as Nathan and Shea began looking for the agency who was trying to capture Shea and her sister, Grace. Action: 4.0: Banks peppered the story with action.  {1} Nathan and Swanny escaped from their captors.  {2} Shea was running from men hunting her.  {3} KGI, Nathan, and Shea began searching for the people hunting the Peterson sisters.  {4} An exciting finale when Shea had to be rescued from her captors. Emotion: 3.0: This is one of the most disappointing things about the way Banks tells her KGI stories -- she somehow fails to elicit that intense emotional connection to the characters that makes for a really great book full of tears and laughter. Romance: 4.5: Because of the unassailable connection that developed between Nathan and Shea during his captivity, when they finally met, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that these two people were soul mates.  And Nathan and Shea were not afraid to voice and act on their deep feelings for the other. Sensuous: 2.0: It was a surprise that Banks downplayed the sensuality in this book to the degree that she did.  Not that the sex between Nathan and Shea wasn't powerfully potent, hot, spicy and relatively graphic, but Banks didn't spend a great deal of time on this aspect of their relationship. Suspense: 3.5: Again, this Romantic Suspense book was all about the romance and the suspense took a back seat.  The suspenseful aspect of the story was not the nail-biting kind that keep a reader anxiously turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. Secondary Characters:  3.5 The connection between reader and the secondary characters was minimal.  Sure they are interesting.  Sure we want to read their stories, but that hook, that special something that creates that magical connection between the reader and that secondary character is marginal.  Secondary characters featured in this book include: {1} Sam Kelly, {2} Sophie Kelly, {3} Charlotte Kelly, {4} Garrett Kelly, {5} Sarah [Daniels]; {6} Ethan Kelly, {7} Rachel Kelly, {8} Donovan "Van" Kelly, {9} Joe Kelly, {10} Frank Kelly, {11} Marlene Kelly, {12} Rusty, {13} Swanson "Swanny", {14} Grace Peterson, {15} Steele, {16} Rio, {17} Terrence, {18} P.J. [Rutherford], {19} [David] "Cole" [Coletrane], {20t} Adam Resnick, and {21} Kyle Phillips. A more in-depth, detailed, spoiler-ridden review of *Whispers In The Dark* appears at Wolf Bear Does Books.

Nathan Kelly is a prisoner in Afghanistan. As a soldier for the U.S. Army, he's lived with the reality that each day could be his last ... but there are some things worse than death. When he and his team were tasked with an uncomplicated recon they hadn't expected to be engaged. Then all hell had broken loose—gunfire, explosions, shouting. Knocked unconscious, Nathan had come to bound in the back of a cargo truck with three of his teammates. Together, they'd made a pact—vowed not to be broken. Not to cooperate no matter the cost. And for the first few weeks in captivity he was sure that rescue would come at any moment. It never did. Two of his teammates have long since been killed, and Nathan has endured endless days of torture and intense suffering. Like an animal living in unimaginable conditions, he’s been reduced to basic survival, coping from one hour to the next. When, alone in the dark, overwhelmed with grief, and without hope he unexpectedly hears an angel whisper to him "You’re not alone. I’m here. I’m with you. I won’t leave you." Shea Peterson is telepathic—she can hear people’s thoughts and talk to them in the same manner—and has been running from people who will stop at nothing to exploit her unique abilities. Though she's a world away, she hears Nathan in his darkest hour. She feels his suffering. Despair. Self-condemnation and guilt. Fear that he’ll never return to his family. He’s so close to giving up all hope. Sensing his desire to die, and ignoring the danger it puts her in, Shea reaches out to him. Comforts him. Absorbs his pain and eases his suffering. She gives him a renewed determination to live. To fight. And with her help … escape. But once she knows that he’s safe and free, she breaks the bond between them leaving Nathan feeling a tangible loss. Now, the people who have been hunting Shea have found her. And though she never wanted to drag Nathan, who'd already suffered so much, into danger, she doesn’t have a choice. With no money or identification, exhausted and scared, she reaches out to him for help. And finally face-to-face after having formed a soul-deep bond in hell, Nathan refuses to consider ever letting her go again. The fourth installment in the KGI series certainly wasn't what I’ve come to expect from a KGI novel. Not that I don’t enjoy a good paranormal romance now and then, but talk about a change in direction … Ms. Banks raised the bar really high for herself with this series, and I felt somewhat disappointed by the sudden supernatural twist being thrown into an otherwise straight-forward military romantic suspense series. For me, it rendered an otherwise thought provoking and deeply emotional story into something unbelievable—science fiction. While not my favorite story in the series, overall, Whispers in the Dark is a well-written, suspenseful read of torment, despair, compassion, healing, and love, with a satisfying HEA.
