Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Whose Teeth are These? is part of the "Name that Animal!" series. The book is set up as a guessing game. On one page the author has a photograph of an animal's teeth and gives clues as to what the animal is. Then, the reader turns the page to learn "whose teeth are these?" Unlike most of the other books in this series, most of the examples are actually easy for older children to guess. Partially this is due to clues that are a little more specific and pictures that often show more than just the teeth of the animal. Also, this book shows a wide variety of animal teeth—from elk to rattlesnakes and from walruses to cougars. With the exception of the marine iguana, all the animals are relatively common enough for a child to guess. The text is decent and the photographs are interesting. One problem, however, is that the text is on a lower level than that of a child who would actually be able to guess the various animals. However, this might be a good thing if a child is on a lower reading level and a higher interest level. 2003 (orig. 2001), Gareth Stevens Publishing,
