Overview

Now a major motion picture, directed by Lucky McKee and written by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee. A selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

The Woman is the powerful story of the last survivor of a feral tribe of cannibals who have terrorized the east coast from Maine into Canada for years now. Badly wounded in a battle with police, she takes refuge in a cave overlooking the sea. Christopher Cleek is a slick, amoral -- and unstable -- country lawyer who, out hunting one day, sees her bathing in a stream. Fascinated, he follows her to her cave. Cleek has many dark secrets and to these he'll add another. He will capture her, lock her in his fruit cellar, tame her and civilize her. To this end he'll enlist his long-suffering wife Belle, his teenage son and daughter Brian and Peg, and even his little girl Darlin', to aid him. So the question becomes, who is more savage? The hunter or the game?

Editorial Reviews

Author of The Stand, The Shining & Dr. Sleep - Stephen King
“Who’s the scariest guy in America? Probably Jack Ketchum.”

“Ketchum has become a kind of hero to those of us who write tales of horror and suspense. He is, quite simply, one of the best in the business.”

Saw the movie had to read the book

This was just like the movie except for bits and pieces, nothing major. I really enjoyed it alot . I only wish they would have gone into the woman' s past more. That would have been good in understanding her more. Other than that its not for kids under 16 , in my opinion. I think it is to graphic. I enjoyed the plot.

    WHAT A RIDE!!

I loved THE WOMAN and could not put it down. I was sorry to see it end. Great story! The sickest of all dysfunctional families. I hope there's a sequel.

Couldn't put it down, read it in a couple of hours. Thought it was better than the first two.

I enjoyed this book much more than Offspring and Off Season. The book takes readers into the mind of two majorly dysfunctional characters; the Woman and Cleek. It provides fans with gore, and a sick and twisted plot line that those who love Kethcum crave. Great book!

    Awesome!!!

This is a great horror story. It was dark, twisted and gory. My kind of book. I love this writer. He is not afraid to get down and dirty to write a good horror novel. You can't go wrong buying anything written by this author. I hope there is another one in this series.

    True Horror

I was intrigued by the news generated about the movie and decided to check this book out.

I was pleasantly surprised at the subtle twists.

    I highly recommend this.
