Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason
Middle school. Probably, it is the hardest two or three years of a child's schooling. It is the age when kids begin to break free from their parents and struggle to find themselves. They also struggle with grades, friends, bullying, locker rooms, dating, and a myriad of other challenges. Readers, do not worry. The authors of this book are here to help. Like the title implies, the book is a series of tips about surviving middle school. The topics range from how to handle the mountains of homework, to how to stay out of a fight, to how to pass time in detention. The tone is conversational and friendly. The illustrations are humorous without making fun of the text. And the advice is pretty good, too. Typically, books of this genre tend to be preachy and encourage kids to do the exact things that they are trying to avoid. This book is different. The advice these authors offer is practical and realistic, if not always what the experts might say. For example, under the topic "How to Survive a Bully," the authors do not advise kids to tell an adult right away, but to try to have a poker face and get out of the situation as quickly as possible. They do encourage an anonymous note or email to the school, but they realize that obviously telling on a bully might make the situation worse. Overall, the message is one of positivity. They encourage kids to be who they are and to do what is right. They just make that message sound real. Reviewer: Heather Robertson Mason

    Cd

    Great book.
First off, the girl who decided that every1 was a B-OTCH if they didnt help is her is just annoying and rude so dont listen to her. Since im nice i WILL decide to give her tips.

First off decorating ur locker is fun but u will spend such a little amount of time there it wont matter that much. But u can put up cut pics of ur frends and stuff!

Also a locker miror is cool to make sure u look good before class. A locker shelf is a must for orginization.

Makeup isnt amust tho and u shud only add the neccesaties like lip gloss and eye shadow and/or eyeliner+mascara.

U dont need a bf to have fun btw

Theres also binders and pens penxils and highlighters wich is a must btw.

And lastly REMEMBER ORGINIZATION IS KEY!!!!

also IF U WANT TIPS BUY THE BOOK DUH

Wow! Amazing book! It has a ton of tips and hints for surviving middle school! I love it because it gives me practical and useful information, and it isn't telling me to do what i am trying to avoid. I would recommend this to anyone entering middle school or already in middle school. Great for ages 10-14. Great book!

I am in LOVE with this book1 I am in LOVE with this book!

This here book is really hepful and a fun read. Iwould read this for fun any day. I love that it tells you not to get in a fight, how to solve a teaher problem, how to get over a friend breakup, how to make new friends and how to dance at a dance. I very well do recommend this book for kids startin ot in middle school. The only thing I did not like was that it does not have a section on dating.
    Sincerly,
    An Alomost Middle Schooler
