Overview

Both his parents having died, Ben Stanton is alone. His uncle has just finished settling Ben's father's estate, and Ben has realized $365.19, a princely sum in the 1880s. He has an offer to work for his uncle in Hampton, his small, East-coast hometown, but he's not interested in working inside. Instead, Ben decides to go to California and search for gold.
