Matt de la Peña

Matt de la Peña is the author of the Newbery Medal-winning Last Stop on Market Street, Milo Imagines the World, Carmela Full of Wishes, Love, and A Nation's Hope: The Story of Boxing Legend Joe Louis, as well as a number of critically acclaimed young adult novels.

Matt de la Peña has written seven young adult novels and six picture books. He won the 2016 Newbery Medal for his picture book, Last Stop on Market Street. He has received numerous other awards for his kids books and YA novels including the ALA-YALSA Best Books for Young Adults (Top Ten Pick) for Mexican WhiteBoy, Ball Don't Lie, and We Were Here. He also won the ALA-YALSA Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers for Ball Don't Lie, We Were Here, and I Will Save You. His debut novel, Ball Don't Lie, was made into a major motion picture in 2011. In 2017, he wrote his third picture book, Miguel and the Grand Harmony, which ties into the Pixar movie COCO.
