In addition to writing, Patti Smith is a performer and visual artist. Her debut album was Horses in 1975 and is considered one of the greatest albums of all time in the punk rock scene. Her most popular songs include "Because the Night", co-written with Bruce Springsteen, and "Gloria", a punk reimagining of Van Morrison's song. Her musical style blends punk rock with poetry and literary influences as seen throughout her published writing. She influenced bands such as R.E.M., The Smiths, and U2 and was often called the "Godmother of Punk." Radio Ethiopia was her second studio album with a heavier rock sound, more experiemental and aggressive tracks and highlighted her punk energy. Her next album, Easter, was produced by Bruce Springsteen's producer and brought a more polished, pop rock sound, including her popular hit "Because the Night." She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
