Tomie dePaola is a prolific American writer best known for his children's books. He wrote and/or illustrated over 270 books, including the award-winning book children's book Strega Nona. DePaola was born in Meriden, Connecticut, and was attracted to art at a very early age thanks to his family's support in his pursuit of the arts. DePaola studied and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and his Master of Fine Arts from Lone Mountain College. In addition to those two degrees, dePaola received honorary doctoral degrees from The University of Connecticut, Georgetown University, and more.
