5 Charming Picture Books About Ladybugs
Ladybugs would handily win in an insect popularity contest. They’re so cute and colorful with their neat red shells and tiny black dots, and it always feels a little magical to have one land on your hand. Growing up, we had a bunch of theories as to what the number of spots on their dome-shaped shells meant—their age? The number of wishes they’d grant you? Whatever the case, it always seemed like catching a ladybug was sure to bring you luck. (Farmers would agree, as they help protect crops, too!) Here are five great picture books to share with the little ladybugs in your life.

The Grouchy Ladybug, by Eric Carle
Perhaps best known for his classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar, this book by Eric Carle uses some of the same style of cut-out pages and colorful and bold illustrations. As the title reveals, this ladybug is grumpy. She refuses to share, and shouts at the other friendly ladybugs to leave her alone. The grouchy ladybug tries to fight every insect who comes in her way, although no one is big enough to be worth fighting. (Not even a rhinoceros!) How will she ever learn to be nice?
