5 Series for Fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid

He’s baaaack!

The Terrible Two, by Mac Barnett, Jory John, and Kevin Cornell
Miles Murphy is less than enthusiastic about moving to the boring town of Yawnee Valley. If there’s any silver lining, it’s that he can extend his title of Class Prankster to a new class and town. But Miles quickly discovers that Yawnee Valley already has a world-class prankster, one who is not going to hand over the title easily. As the competition grows, so does the outrageousness, until the two pranksters realize that perhaps they should join forces to pull of the biggest prank of all time. With the third book releasing early next year, now is a good time to get caught up on this laugh-out-loud series.

The QwikPick Papers, by Tom Angleberger
Lyle, Marilla, and Dave are members of the QwikPick Adventure Society. It’s a bit of a challenge to find adventure in their dull hometown of Crickenburg, but these three friends make it their mission. In the first book the three friends discover the Amazing Poop Fountain at the Crickenburg Wastewater Treatment Plant. The second book has the trio searching for a rat with a human face that may be hiding in the basement of an old research facility. In the third book (out October 31st!), Lyle and his friends are chasing the legend of a slave master buried standing upright (they want to kick him over). Whether they find it or not is less important than the hilarity that ensues on the hunt.

Stick Cat and Stick Dog, by Tom Watson
These two series by the same author have the same laugh-out-loud humor, and repeated hijinks, whether you’re Team Cat or Team Dog. Stick Cat patrols the neighborhood with his best friend, Edith, singing songs, chasing down birds, and always managing to get out of scrapes with all of his 9 lives intact. Each of the Stick Dog book features a quest for yet another culinary delight: Pizza, hotdogs, ice cream. Don’t ask Stick Dog to pick a favorite, he loves them all.

Dork Diaries, by Rachel Renee Russell
When Nikki Maxwell transfers to a new school, she had some concerns. And like many adolescent girls, she spills her heart out into her diary. That’s bad news for Nate, but good news for us, as we watch Nate dream up his latest prank or master plan, all of which always seem to end in disaster, but in the most hilarious way. Troublemaker, yes, but the kind that you can’t help but love.
