Each vampire has a distinct personality and their lovers, both human and vampire, are more than mere ingenues.

Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon
A time traveler meets a highland warrior. They fall in love. Chaos (and steamy romance!) ensue. Season 3 of the television adaptation will arrive in the spring, so why not get a head start on the books while you still can! (Full disclosure, I am about to start book #7 of this series, because they are dramatic, and long enough, to be savored.) But if you are adventurous enough to read them all in one go, you get all the virtual cookies!

Crossfire, by Sylvia Day
For those of you into Billionaire romances with just a hint of BDSM, the Crossfire series is for you (and with only 5 books, perfectly manageable over a winter season!) Eva Tramell is coming to terms with the trauma of her past when she meets the cold, calculating, and charismatic Gideon Cross. His desire to possess her—but not let her beyond his own personal boundaries—provides ample tension in this romantic suspense that is an easy next read for Fifty Shades of Grey fans.

Fever, by Karen Marie Moning
A paranormal mystery with a couple (and an anti-hero) you will never forget. The first six books in this series focus on couple Mac and Barrons: when Mac’s sister is murdered and she travels to Dublin to unravel the mystery, she finds herself embroiled in a war amongst the mythical Fae—and falling for a man with many secrets. (My favorite character in this series is V’lane, a Seelie prince, whose sexual prowess can literally kill you.)

The Hathaways, by Lisa Kleypas
For those in the mood for something a bit brighter this season, check out the Hathaways series by Lisa Kleypas. The Hathaways are not your typical family of the London well-to-do, but an unexpected inheritance has put them in the public eye, with public expectations to go along with it, such as marriage. Four siblings enter society, all with differing personalities and dreams…and eventually, they all find their happily ever afters with dashing, daring, and caring men who deserve them.

Original Sinners, by Tiffany Reisz
This series is my annual holiday-time re-read, not only because I love it, but because author Tiffany Reisz reveals a Christmas novella starring her original sinners every year. (This year’s is called The Scent of Winter…which is super exciting, because if you read this series you’ll learn that Soren, one of the main characters, is often described as smelling like winter.) This series is about a Dominant sadistic priest in love with two switches—one a Dominatrix and erotica writer, the other a former soldier and current billionaire—and if that description hasn’t convinced you to try it out from the beginning, I don’t know what will.
