This book is a beautiful story of the complexities of family, forgiveness, and growing up. Gillian McDunn’s debut young reader will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope it finds its way into yours as well! Cat and her brother Chicken are extremely close, with Cat being the one who best knows what Chicken needs, particularly since her mom has been working super hard since their dad passed away to make ends meet. When their summer trip goes awry, Cat and Chicken find themselves spending 3 weeks with grandparents they only just met, and for the first time in years, she gets to just be a kid at the beach without any extra responsibilities.
