Listen Up! May 2022 on Poured Over
Summer’s almost here, and we’re only a few episodes away from our first anniversary. We’re kicking off May and AAPI Heritage month with Vaishnavi Patel and her wonderful debut, Kaikeyi, a retelling of the Ramayana. We couldn’t put down Trust, the very clever and fast-paced book-within-a-book about money and power, exile and isolation from Pulitzer Prize finalist Hernan Diaz. We’re immensely fond of Monica Ali’s sharp and witty new novel, Love Marriage, which is set in London and inspired by Jane Austen. Delighted to host bestselling authors and former B&N Book Club picks Jennifer Weiner and Emma Straub when they join us on the show to talk about their new novels, That Summer Place (Weiner) and This Time Tomorrow (Straub). We have Alison Espach talking about her newest novel, Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance and Dietland author Sarai Walker on The Cherry Robbers. One of our favorite writers, Akwaeke Emezi, switches gears and delivers a very fun and steamy romance set in a world of art and celebrity with their latest, You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty. Honorée Fanonne Jeffers joins us to talk about her novel, The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois, one of our favorites from last year and available in paperback this month. Steve Almond has plenty to say about his debut novel, All the Secrets of the World, and the craft of writing. Selma Blair wowed us with her unflinching memoir, Mean Baby, and Candice Millard corrects a historical narrative by putting an explorer back in his rightful place at the discovery of the Nile in River of the Gods.
