Outlander Fans, Finding Fraser is Your New Summer Must-Read

A friend told me over cocktails one night that I just HAD to read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. She had recommended other wonderful reads before so I ordered it immediately and jumped right in. But after fifty pages, I wasn’t hooked. I couldn’t understand what was so interesting about the lead character, Claire, and her recent marriage to someone who appeared to be a boring, nice guy. After voicing my concerns to my friend, she assured me, “Stick with it. It gets AWESOME!”

And boy, did it ever.
From time travel to amazing, and I mean amazing, sex scenes, Outlander took historical romance to a whole new level. And I was soon swooning for Jamie Fraser, the hunky male love interest, as much as the next girl.
So when that same girlfriend told me about K. C. Dyer’s new book Finding Fraser, the story of a 29-year old single woman who quits her job, starts a blog, and moves to Scotland to find her own Jamie Fraser by following the same route that Claire from Outlander took, I was intrigued.
Emma Sheridan’s search for her version of Fraser begins, much to the dismay of her bossy sister, by selling all of her belongings, quitting her coffeehouse job, and embarking on a series of adventures that don’t go at all like she imagined they would. As she scours the hills of Scotland to find a man just like her beloved fictional man, her journey becomes one more about finding herself than about discovering the embodiment of a great love that only lives in her imagination.

One of the most highly entertaining aspects of the book is Emma’s blog posts, which she creates as a way to document her mishaps and successes. Her hilarious point of view and voice make this a story that had me snorting with laughter at times. I also couldn’t wait to read the comments that people would leave on each of her blog posts. As a former blogger myself, these rang so true and entertained me to no end.
Don’t fret though, if you haven’t read the Outlander series. The story is weaved in such a way that references to characters and locations are explained so you won’t be left feeling out..
And if you are one of the many fans of Outlander, you will definitely get a kick out of the references to the novel and the chance to revisit Gabaldon’s epic series through the eyes of a woman who learns that sometimes fiction isn’t better than reality.
