To put it as simply as I can, if you are saved from death and sin, by the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ, then you are saved from death and sin. Look at sin in this way, everyone has the ability to lie and steal. But just because you have the ability to lie and steal, that does not mean that you are a liar and a thief.
