Throughout the 1920s and ’30s, card games such as Whist, and its derivative Spades, Gin Rummy, and Bridge were popular, alongside classic casino games, including 21 and Poker, which could be played at home. Dressing up, sipping cocktails, and staying in to play cards became “a la mode,” especially among young people as a statement against the Temperance Movement.
