Vera Charlotte (Dettmann) Steppeler was born 1935 in Koenigsberg, East Germany (now Kaliningrad). She survived the bombing of her home literally by minutes. After being evacuated she celebrated the end of WW II in Bavaria and eventually moved to Westphalia where she got married and shortly thereafter emigrated to Canada for 3 years.
