FAQs for Buckyballs Recall
- Q. Why is B&N conducting this recall?
- A. This recall is for safety purposes at the recommendation of the CPSC. Because the manufacturer of Buckyballs, Maxfield and Oberton, LLC, has liquidated or is unable and/or unwilling to conduct a voluntary corrective action plan, the CPSC has requested that retailers such as B&N conduct a recall of Buckyballs that they sold. For more details on the CPSC recall, please go to (link to CPSC website).
- Q. How can I tell if I have recalled Buckyballs?
- A. Buckyballs are very distinguishable. The original packaging has the brand name "Buckyballs" on it. In addition, if you still have the carrying case that came with the product, the name is also located on the case. If you do not have the original packaging or the carrying case, the product comes in various colors and is a set of about 216 magnets. B&N sold the original, black, gold and silver models listed above. Each magnet is a sphere shape and approximately 3mm in diameter.
- Q. Can I return my Buckycubes to B&N?
- A. No. B&N did not sell any Buckycubes. B&N only sold the four Buckyballs models listed above.
- Q. How can I take advantage of the recall?
- A. If you have any Buckyballs, please call 1-800-THE-BOOK for instructions on how to return them to B&N.
- Q. What is the problem with my Buckyballs?
- A. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has initiated a recall of Buckyballs due to incidents involving ingestion of Buckyballs, which are magnetic, resulting in certain incidents in hospitalization. For more details on the CPSC recall, please go to www.cpsc.gov.
- Q. My Buckyballs appear to be operating okay. Can I continue to use them?
- A. No. Even though your product appears to be safe, we are asking all customers to immediately stop using the product and participate in the recall by returning your Buckyballs to us for a credit.
- Q. Will I receive a refund or credit for the product?
- A. Yes. You will receive a credit equivalent to the purchase price of Buckyballs which are returned.
- Q. How long is this recall in effect?
- A. . Recalls are indefinite. However, because B&N is not the manufacturer of Buckyballs, B&N will accept only the number of Buckyballs sold to its customers (1,038 units).
