Serving in Coordination and Washing in Love
How can we be useful and effective in our service to the Lord? We all love the Lord, but the fruit of our work may not be rich, because we lack coordination with others. The book of Ephesians uses two phrases many times: in spirit and in love. We have seen that we need to be in spirit in order to have genuine coordination, but we must also see the importance of love.

"When we are in spirit, we can conduct ourselves in love. However, if we emphasize being in spirit but do not emphasize being in love, we will not be able to be adjusted in relation to our flesh and our self. Conducting ourselves in love is a limitation to our flesh and our self. The ability to know whether we are in the self or in the flesh depends on whether we conduct ourselves in love."

In John 13 we see an indication of the Lord's love: His foot-washing. The Gospel of John speaks of foot-washing in love, bearing fruit in love, and oneness in love. In order to bear fruit, we must love one another, and it is difficult to arrive at a genuine love for one another apart from spiritual foot-washing. "Genuine oneness is in foot-washing in love. This is our need today."

About the Author

Born in 1905 in northern China, Witness Lee was raised in a Christian family and educated in English-speaking schools. At the age of 19 he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and consecrated himself to preach the gospel. Early in his service, Witness Lee met Watchman Nee and began to labor together with him. In 1949 Witness Lee was sent by Watchman Nee to Taiwan to ensure that the things delivered to them by the Lord would be preserved. In 1962 Witness Lee came to the United States and began to minister here. He ministered in weekly conferences, delivering several thousand spoken messages until 1997. He gave his last public conference in February 1997 at the age of 91. His major work, Life-Study of the Bible, comprises over 25,000 pages of commentary on every book of the Bible from the perspective of the believers' enjoyment and experience of God's divine life in Christ through the Spirit.
