About the Author

Jane Gorman is the author of the Adam Kaminski mystery series. Having worked as an anthropologist, a diplomat and a park ranger, Gorman turned to mysteries as yet another way to visit new worlds and meet new people.

Gorman's books are informed by her international experiences, both as an anthropologist and through her work with the U.S. State Department. She has previously published in the field of political anthropology, negotiated international instruments on behalf of the U.S. government, and appeared on national television through her efforts to support our nation's cultural heritage. Her books are each set in a different city or town around the world, building on her eye for detailed settings, appreciation of complex characters, and love of place-based mystery.

She lives in Cherry Hill, NJ, with her husband, who loves traveling even more than she does and has a voracious appetite for life, two cats who are very picky eaters, and a Pointer-Hound mix who wants nothing more out of life than to eat the cats.

I finally realized two characters had the same Polish last name and are cousins. The names of the characters, streets, buildings, etc. In Polish, made this story difficult to read and to picture the characters.

Although I found this book a little wordy at times, it was a reallly good mystery. I learned a lot about Warsaw and some of the politics that were involved in the transition from Communism. The characters were well developed. The story line reflected Adam's personal angst as well as his determination to do the right thing while being in a foreign country. I will be reading more from this author. I just purchased book 2 and can't wait to get started.

This book is probably one of my favorites...

The main character is a Philly detective sent on a diplomatic mission to Poland who gets embroiled in political intrigue and murder. The writing is decent, and the story is easily understood. The perspective of the Poles is interesting and very well considered. While there were some minor story pacing issues, I would recommend the book & am very likely to buy another book in the series.

....intriguing story that kept my interest and I particularly appreciated the glimpses of Warsaw landmarks and Polish history. Having spent time in Poland and in the city of Warsaw, I felt the author gave the story some real autheticity. This is a good mystery; one I did not figure out ahead of time.

Decent book but occas dragged on. Good plot and likeable characters. Even though this is part of a series, this is a complete boook w/a conclusion.
