Overview

A Fatal Twist of Lemon (Wisteria Tearoom Mysteries, #1) by Patrice Greenwood

Cops drink coffee.

They don't belong in Ellen Rosings's Victorian tearoom. But when her opening day thank-you tea ends in the murder of the president of the Santa Fe Preservation Trust, the police invade her haven.

Enter Detective Tony Aragon: attractive and unsympathetic, with a chip on his shoulder that goes beyond the murder investigation, and Ellen's delicate bone china cup is full. Is the murderer one of her honored guests, or the ghost rumored to haunt the building? Will Ellen solve the mystery, or will the Wisteria Tearoom's premiere turn out to be its—and Ellen's—finale?

This is an enjoyable cozy mystery in a fun setting. I liked the characters, the setting and found the story to be nice and clean, without any extraneous violence. I suspected the murderer well before the end, but I wasn't 100% sure. I also appreciated the scone recipe at the back of the book, since the food described in the story sounded yummy!

I didn't figure out who did it right away, which was a nice change. I liked that it was set in Santa Fe, as that is one of my favorite cities. I liked the characters in the story, although some were a little light on substance. And although I generally don't care about the recipes that are included in books,no found myself hoping that the strawberry meringue concoctions would be (they sound delicious). It was a nice touch that the recipes were for the appropriate high elevation, with instructions for adjusting them to one's own elevation.

A nice diversion, rich with local historical and cultural detail. I'm looking forward to the next book. Warning: don't read on an empty stomach! The tea and food descriptions are mouth-watering. Luckily, recipes are included.

I enjoyed the book, couldn't figure out how old Ellen was so I assumed she was in her 20's or 30's. I know police can be a little rude but clearly Tony needs anger management. It was a cute mystery, but if these to characters are leading to romance please spice it up. I am only giving it 3 stars and I am going to buy the next book.

This tea mystery takes place in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The characters are a motley group and well- developed. It is easy to picture the town and its inhabitants. The story is suspenseful. There is an unpredictable element, thought to be the resident ghost. I can smell the flowers the author describes, taste the various teas as well as the scones and other goodies.

Some reviewers say its a slow read, but I found it kinda of gentle. No drawn out graphic sex scenes or gory murder descriptions. The plot did tend to wander and I didn't care for the cop. At $6.99 for the ebook copy of the 2nd book, I wasn't that caught up intbe story line to buy it.
