I did not think Max would like this. The illustrations did not look inviting to me. Some of the words used are rather big for a 6-year-old, but he loved it! He thought the story was exciting, and it is! I specifically asked him about the illustrations. He simply said he liked them. The illustrations do show emotion and action. Of course, this is a great Biblical story that is so often overlooked. I love that part. A female biblical warrior--how often do you hear about that? I recommend this.

A FEARLESS LEADER; A Bible Story About Deborah is -- as it says -- a Bible story about a Bible prophet and leader that we don't hear much about in Sunday School classes. She is passed over in favor of heros like David the shepherd boy fighting a giant, Noah building the ark, and other more popular stories. This is a very well-written, beautifully illustrated book that is sure to be a treasure for families of girls who want to show that girls can be used by God too. A must for church libraries, daycares, preschools, Sunday School departments and more. Grab a copy of A FEARLESS LEADER for your favorite little girl today. I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

“And Deborah, I have destined you to lead them to freedom,” God whispers to the brave female about her people in Rachel Spier Weaver and Anna Haggard’s children’s book, A Fearless Leader: A Bible Story about Deborah. ~ What ~ This over-sized forty-eight-page paperback targets children ages three to seven years old who like stories retold from the Bible. Part of the Called and Courageous Girls series, these books promote stories in Scripture that elevate women who love God and follow Him. The beginning has an ownership page and the ending includes three reflection questions and a note to the reader. In this story taken from Judges 4 and 5, young Deborah warns her village that the evil Sisera is coming, saving them from death. After everyone flees to Ephraim and Deborah grows up, she judges her people and through God’s urging, tells Barak to gather ten-thousand troops against Sisera. God’s intervention has Deborah leading the army to victory, but Sisera escapes, later to meet another woman named Jael. ~ Why ~ If you have children, especially girls, who love stories about a Bible character who had to make brave decisions and risk everything to follow God, this one will keep their attention. I like that the book focuses on God’s interaction and intervention to save His people. I loved how it shows how powerful God is and by trusting in Him, one has victory. Adding the questions allow further discussion that reiterates the topic. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with God or Jesus Christ may not be interested in this read or series. Due to some of the pictures of war, destruction by fire, and horses getting stuck in mud, the illustrations may frighten younger readers. Some of the two and three syllable words may be hard for beginner readers. ~ Wish ~ While I deeply appreciate the retelling of a fascinating Biblical story about a woman who trusted God and saved her nation, I noticed some liberties were taken from the Bible such as Jael capturing Sisera (the Bible states she asked him into her tent to sleep and drove a peg through his skull – which may be a good thing omitted from the book due to its violence). ~ Want ~ If you are looking for a children’s series of brave, courageous women in the Bible that would be enjoyed by preschoolers to second-graders, this may be a great source, but I would caution that some young ones may be frightened by some of the artwork. Rated 4.5 of 5 stars. Thanks to Harvest House Publishers, Inc. for this book that I am under no obligation to review.

I love this inspiring Bible series for children. I like the imaginative peek at what the girls may have been like when they were young and then the story from the Bible about their life when grown. It makes a beautiful addition to your children's bookshelves! I received a copy to review and all opinions are 100% my own.

A beautifully illustrated story about the fearlesss leader Deborah. Based on Judges 4-5 in the Bible, this story shows Deborah's determination and dedication. I look forward to sharing this book with everyone. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest personal opinion. No review was required.#AFearlessLeader
