About the Author

Thomas Kinkade emphasized simple pleasures and inspirational messages through his art. Thom believed that both the ability and the inspiration to create his paintings had been given to him as a gift. His goal as an artist was to touch people of all faiths and to bring peace and joy into their lives through the images he created.

Katherine Spencer was a fiction editor before turning to a full-time career as a writer. The author of more than thirty books, she also writes the Angel Island series, as well as the Black Sheep Knitting Mysteries under her real name, Anne Canadeo. She lives with her husband and daughter in a small village on the Long Island Sound. Outside of her office, she is active in many community charity projects.

This was a good read, but a bit darker than some of the others in the series. I'm starting backwards, and this is one of the earliest I've read. I'm used to the townsfolk being very understanding and kind for the most part, so it was hard to read about poor Carl and the life he'd led. While Molly was having a hard time with her life, she'd met the understanding and kind Matt. They got along with their great kids, made a connection and while it wasn't smooth sailing, had an easier time. Even when her ex stepped in. once Molly let go of her anger, they got along and Matt let go of the guilt over his wife. Carl had to fight all along the way to get any kind of respect. I'm a bit shocked how everyone in town, even his own brother, looked down on him and treated him so poorly. Clearly the man had been railroaded, yet no one wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. And any good things he'd done growing up never seemed to matter. My heart broke for him as he was so clearly unwanted. I was thankful that eventually things did work out, realizations were made, and he had a family and a new life. Thanks to Ben doing his calling. Sophie and husband also just broke my heart. This one will make you cry out for the injustice, bask in the warmth of friends and family, and make you cry in it's sadness as life continues on it's great circle.

I like Kincaid and Spencer and hope they write lots more books. If you like Jan Karon, you'll probably love this series. It's not intense or highly intellectual but just thoughtful, heartwarming and encouraging without being preachy or overbearing. Also does not include the gratuitous sex of so many of the escape romances.

The Cape Light Series are some of my favorite novels of all time. These books will leave you feeling so content with life. It shows you that people everywhere experience miracles and tragedies throughout life. But it gives you something to look forward to, your own life, and it encourages you to enjoy it and not let it pass you by. You will love the people of Cape Light like a family by the time you are done reading these novels!

A New Leaf is just a good as the others in this series. I read it in two weeks (had to go to work and sleep). I just love these books. I hope the series continues to grow. I've read alot by the big names (Nora, Jackie, Danielle, James P, etc). These are without a doubt the best books I've ever read. These books are written so well. I don't have to go back and re-read a couple pages to understand what just happened. I come away feeling so good after reading these books. No violence, no sex, just good, clean stories about a wonderful town, realistic characters, and events that effect their lives. The story of the Potters was very touching. The spirital value is also appealing - makes me think as I'm reading because it sometimes hits home. Really makes me want to take a trip east to the Cape area. Please Thomas - we need more!!!

This is the 4th book in the series about the town of Cape Light (geddit? Cape LIGHT?), so I was missing some things about what had happened in previous books. This one--I haven't read the others, nor will I, so I don't know if they have similar themes--is About Second Chances. Two main story threads--a bitter divorced mom and the new doctor in town (who's moved, by the way, to give his daughter a second chance--she has a "horrible" stuttering problem which seems to be nonexistent except in his mind), and a long-lost black-sheep brother who comes home. And there was a man who dies and his widow wants to keep their orchard. The stories were uninspired, the characters cardboard cut-outs, and the resolutions of the problems too easy and sugar-sweet--all it takes is a little chat with saintly Reverend Ben. *gag*

This is not a book that I found interesting, it is very much like every other heartbreak, moving on in life type of book. I thought because it was on sale I would try it but I still can not finish it, it doesn't hold my interest at all. If you like humdrum this is it.

This is a "comfort book." A nice change when I had been reading a lot of stories about serial killers! Also a book I'd feel comfortable recommending or giving to friends who are put off by crime novels and want something soothing.
