Leptospirosis is a relatively rare bacterial illness that affects animals (particularly rats, mice, moles, birds, amphibians and reptiles) and humans. At least five variations in the bacteria exist in the U.S: Icterohaemorrhagiae, Canicola, Pomona, Grippotyphosa, and Bratislava.
