A Peculiar Courtship by Laura Beers

Lord Jonathon Beckett’s mission is simple: retrieve Lady Hannah and place her under the protection of the Crown. But he isn’t prepared for the havoc she inflicts on his world, making him question whether his duty as an agent of the Crown should always come before his heart.

Lady Hannah's father has uncovered evidence exposing a French traitor to the Crown. Willing to do anything to silence him, the traitor's primary target has become Lady Hannah. Keeping her safe means locking her away from Society, but she refuses to stand idly by, letting others put their lives on the line to protect her. Instead, she will stop at nothing to learn to defend herself, even at the risk of losing Lord Jonathon’s protection, or his affections.

With a sinister scheme in play to collapse the English government from within, Lord Jonathon must protect Lady Hannah from the French spies intending to use her as a pawn in their game of treachery. But can he protect her from herself?

Very fun and different love story. You root for the characters to get together. Looking forward to the authors next books.

Ok. It’s official. I love this series! I love the romance! I love the action! I really love the characters!! After reading Saving Shadow, I already loved Jonathan, and was really looking forward to meeting Hannah. She is a delight! Even though she is a lady, she is humble and down to earth. And willing to milk a cow! I loved the banter between her and Jonathan. They’re a great match! Eliza and Benedict are prominent characters in the book, which I was so happy about. I love them! I liked the way Hannah looked up to Eliza and wanted to learn from her. And Eliza was more than happy to oblige! I also loved seeing more of Mr. Larson. He is still one of my favorites! I read the first two books in the series back to back, and I’m having a really hard time not being able to pick up the next one right away. It’s so hard to wait! But it will be worth it, I’m sure!

Thank you to the author for providing me with a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Laura did it again. You never know what you’re going to get with a book 2 (let’s be honest: sometimes it’s scary), and I’m glad to say that A Peculiar Courtship did not disappoint. I fell in love with the characters right off the bat and once again had a blast following their storylines. The witty banter was prevalent (the kind that makes you snort, then snort again when you realize you’re in a room with other people who heard you), as were the smart, ass-kicking spies. And I was so happy to see my favorite characters return from Saving Shadow (you can read that review here). This is going to be one of those series that I keep coming back to for a fun, exciting escape from reality. I love the time period (early 19th century), I love the settings (this time it’s in England amongst High Society), and I love the characters (unique, bold personalities with great attitudes, intelligence, and wit). And that romance aspect? My heart is happy. Side note: I think you could get away with reading this one as a stand-alone novel if you haven’t read the first book. Certain aspects of the characters and their histories will be fun surprises. That being said, I thought it was a lot more exciting reading this book with all of the knowledge I gained from having previously read book 1. You know how when you go see a movie after reading the book and the whole time you’re smirking to yourself because you have all of the extra info from the book, so you feel smarter than everyone else? (This is a thing, right? I’m not the only one who does this. . . Right??) That.
