Overview

From USA Today bestselling author Kelly Rey comes another laugh-out-loud Jamie Winters Mystery ...

Legal secretary and reluctant sleuth Jamie Winters never claimed to have an exciting social life. So it's no surprise she's never heard of the local band Virtual Waste...that is until their drummer is murdered backstage at a show, and Jamie's teenaged sidekick, Maizy, just happens to be there! Does the killer think she knows his identity? Is he coming after Maizy next? Jamie is determined to keep her friend safe, even if Maizy is determined to search the entire New Jersey Pine Barrens to track down the killer! While Jamie's hot landlord, Curt, fills in with the band, Jamie wades through the victim's disgruntled bandmates, a slew of discarded groupies, an ex-Marine bouncer, an unhinged Einstein lookalike, an emotionally overwrought agent, an ill-tempered giant, and even the Jersey Devil, to find the truth...before Maizy becomes the next victim.

I've read a few in this series now and i think they just keep getting better. Jamie is so timid she's almost prudish. and Maizy is so wild she's almost dangerous. so together they are a lot of fun.

This is hilarious!! I was so sure that I figured out whodunnit, I was so close yet failed again, lol. I like Jamie, I wish she had a little more self confidence. Maizy is just so outrageous, 100% risk taker, exact opposite of Jamie who is the "old" or rather supposed to be the more mature one in this dynamic duo. Very entertaining, gripping mystery full of their shocking antics that repeatedly had me laughing out loud. I enjoyed this and really wish Jamie would give Curt a chance to get to know her better :) without the chicken cutlets, lol!!!!

Jamie Winters is at it again, reluctantly getting involved in a murder. In book number 5 of the series, it’s the murder of a drummer in a band called Virtual Waste. Her teenage sidekick, Maizy Emerson, just happened to be at the bar when the drummer was killed, well not at the bar, but “bar adjacent” as she explains to her Uncle Curt - lol. This style of witty dialog, by the author, adds to the humor of this entertaining and unique mystery. Whenever Maizy needs help, she calls on Jamie and the fun begins! Curt happens to be Jamie’s landlord and somehow gets dragged into Jamie’s “incidents” as he tries to keep both Jamie and his niece safe. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

The teenage murder solver is back with her cohorts, just in time to solve another murder. Their humor and various suspects keep you engrossed to the very end.

Jamie Winters is pulled into another mystery by her side kick "detective" partner Maisy Emerson. Maisy is Jamie's landlord Curt Emerson's niece, and frequently Curt gets called in for help on these missions. This time Maisy is calling Jamie to tell her that Nicky D (of local band Virtual Waste fame) has been murdered, and they need to investigate. There aren't that many years between Maisy and Jamie's ages (maybe 15?) yet you would swear that Jamie had one foot in the grave the way Maisy acts towards her. Of course blue haired Maisy is probably a genius and light years ahead of her age when it comes to plotting and devious thinking! This story is about Virtual Waste and the members of the band, the groupies and regulars who come to see them, the people who work for the band and the clubs they play in, the Jersey Devil, and surprisingly a romance between Curt and Jamie. There are so many hilarious things that happen (or are said by Maisy) throughout the book, that I kept breaking out in laughter. I have to say I admire Maisy's lack of conformity, but also Jamie's conservative behavior, especially when it comes to black silk. If you are new to this series, stop and get all the other books and read them in order so you can fully appreciate this episode in the continuing saga. Kelly Rey has a wonderful wit and expresses it so well between the exuberant Maisy and the reluctant Jamie, with a hot Curt and a host of other characters throughout the books. I am already wondering what happens next and ready for the series to continue.
