There's a lot going on in this story, but it flows together effortlessly and keeps you in suspense until the very end. Who is behind the attacks and are they really after Leigh or are they targeting Ben? Leigh has just moved back to Logan Point after a 10 year absence. She's a widow with a child in tow, and the father has never been informed. She came back to do it once and never went through with it. Now she's afraid that he will be angry and so will her son. Should she come clean or go on with life as it is? That's something she has to decide, all the while trying to stay alive and under the radar of whoever seems to be targeting her. And it would be so much easier to deal with if her son wasn't bonding with that very family! The who's and whats and whys in this book will keep you on the edge of your comfy chair for the duration of this book, and there's just enough romance to make it sweet without overpowering the rest of the story. I appreciate that. The many twists and turns keep you guessing and the characters are well done and keep it real. This was the first book I have read by Patricia Bradley, and can honestly say I will definitely read more.  Bradley is good at getting you hooked and keeping you interested in what’s going to happen next.  A Promise to Protect is book 2 in the Logan Point series.  I have not read book one, and did not feel like I had to in order to enjoy the story.  Christian Suspense is my favorite type of story to read and Bradley is great at it. Leigh hasn’t had the easiest life up to this point, and she can’t wait to be able to move out of her hometown.  Leigh worries about her brother Tony, and knows that Ben will do his best to protect Tony.  Ben is the acting sheriff, and also happens to be the man that Leigh was crazy about 10 years ago.  When the crazy people that were coming after Tony turn their attention to Leigh, Ben has no choice but to do all he can to protect her.  No matter how much the two of them want to avoid each other, they also can’t help but feel drawn together.  Weird things keep happening all around town, and Ben can’t wait to get to the bottom of it.  They both have secrets and things they need to deal with.  Can God bring them together?  Will the bad guys get to Leigh and her son TJ?   I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction and Suspense.  Bradley keeps you hooked and on your toes waiting to see what will happen next.  The Logan Point series is one I want to read all of.  I received a copy of this book from Bookfun and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions expressed are my own

Patricia Bradley has a hit with this well-written novel of faith, murder, and betrayal! Promise to Protect is an exciting, edge of the seat thriller with sufficient plot twists to keep the fan of mysteries with a dash of romance entranced for hours. The second book in the Logan Point series, it can be read as a stand-alone mystery without having read the earlier book. With the Lord’s help, the widowed Dr. Leigh Somerall has overcome her rocky start in life to become a respected emergency room physician and excellent mother to her son, TJ. She returned to Logan Point to fulfill scholarship requirements by working at a free clinic; she had to stay for one year, then she planned to pursue a previously-offered position at Johns Hopkins. Acting Sheriff Ben Logan had once been a very close friend, then sweetheart, of Leigh until she broke up without a realistic reason. She had a secret that broke them up, then one that was a real whopper, one that nobody in his family could ever learn about. Leigh had avoided Ben when she returned to Logan Point because of those secrets, convinced that revealing the truth couldn’t possibly set her free. Ben’s father, Sheriff Tom Logan, had been shot in the line of duty. During surgery to remove the bullet, he had a stroke that robbed him of the ability to speak or move independently. Frustrated with his limitations, he was unable to communicate any evidence of who shot him, and the case went cold. Leigh loved her older brother, Tony Jackson, a brilliant CFO and a second father to TJ. She loved Tony enough that she went against her instincts to contact Acting Sheriff Ben Logan for him, asking him to contact Tony to meet with him to turn over evidence, including possibly who shot Ben’s father. Unfortunately Ben arrived to meet Tony in time to cradle the shot, dying man minus the flash drive of information. He hesitantly agreed to Tony’s last wish to promise to protect Leigh. After Tony’s death, Leigh and TJ were being pursued, probably by those who killed Tony. First they found her late grandmother’s home where they lived with Tony trashed, then days later it was set on fire. After the fire, Ben had to find a way to keep Leigh and TJ safe. The only option was that they stay TJ at Ben’s parents’ home which had top-of-the-line security gates and system. TJ proceeded to help Ben’s father do things to make his therapy fun, and Sheriff Tom finally began to improve. Ben’s mother is happy to have them there, but Leigh could see in his father’s eyes that she was not welcome. The characters were so well developed throughout the book that finishing the book was like leaving behind friends. I especially like Leigh and her interactions with her best friend, Sarah, and Emily, her boss at the free clinic and Ben’s sister. I also appreciate Leigh’s and Ben’s struggle with faith in the Lord and how the Lord didn’t let them go; it was portrayed well and very realistically. The plot is complex with surprising twists. This reader was very pleased with how well and smoothly this roller-coaster ride mystery unfolded, and found that it was very hard to put it down. The background of the characters and situations was laid out as needed. Especially poignant was seeing how TJ enjoyed helping Ben’s father, his desire to have a father again since the death of his own father, and how Leigh worked hard to keep the lid on her secrets. The plot is fully executed with no stones left unturned. I highly recommend Promise to Protect to adults of any age who appreciate a well-written thriller with Christian values and the hint of romance. It is definitely a worthy read! With a grateful heart, I received a copy of this book through the “For Readers Only” group at The Book Club Network, in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own, and no monetary compensation was received for this review.

A Promise to Protect is Book 2 in Patricia Bradley’s Logan Point series. Having not read the first book in the series, I easily enjoyed this book as a stand-alone novel. I do plan to read the first book, Shadows of the Past, and look forward to continuing the series. I love it when a storyline keeps me guessing, and this one did just that. I enjoyed the intrigue, as the action began on the first page and the suspense escalated as the story progressed. I also enjoyed the rekindled relationship between the main characters, Ben Logan and Leigh Somerall, as they overcame secrets and complications from their past. The theme of forgiveness is woven throughout and adds a wonderful layer to the compelling storyline. A Promise to Protect is a great read for fans of romantic suspense! I enjoyed this book and look forward to my next visit to Logan Point. I received a complimentary copy of this book through The Book Club Network. As a fan of mystery thrillers, I was excited to have the opportunity to read A Promise to Protect. We meet Sheriff Ben Logan as he goes to meet a former high school acquaintance who claims he has important information for him. When Ben arrives, Tony has been murdered. For Ben, this presents a major problem as Tony was the brother of his former love, Leigh who has moved to town with her son to complete a medical residency. When those Ben cares about begin to come under attack, he takes it to mean that someone is out for revenge against him for the death of a teen that happened while Ben was watching the group. Experts seem to believe that there are two suspects with different motives. Can the other one be connected to the shooting of his Sheriff father? As Ben becomes involved in this investigation, he spends more and more time with Leigh, rekindling feelings that he had 10 years ago. What forced Leigh to break up with him and what secret is she desperate to hide from Ben and his family? Fans of DiAnn Mills, Lynn Easton, and Dee Henderson will be drawn to this new writer. She writes a clean page turning thriller that will leave the reader wanting more stories from the town of Logan Point. I received this book from The Book Club Network for my honest opinion.

This book was wonderful just like the first one in the series. This is Book #2 of the Logan Point Series by Patricia Bradley. Even though it is in a series, you can still read this book without reading Book #1. This story follows Sheriff Ben Logan and Dr. Leigh Somerall. The beginning of the book starts with action! There is some romantic tension going on with Ben and Leigh as they have had a past romance. She also has a secret she has kept from him for years. Patricia Bradley has become one of my favorite inspirational fiction. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys suspense and a little romance. I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinion.

I finished reading A Promise to Protect by Patricia Bradley. I wanted to first read Shadows of the Past, the first in the series. I was happy that I could have read A Promise to Protect as a stand alone novel, but I like to read books in series in order so I’m glad I did. This was a great book. Just like in Shadows of the Past, this book had many twists and turns. The person I had targeted as the bad guy wasn’t and the other people who were involved had deeper stories that I originally thought. I love how Ms. Bradley had many different storylines going on at once. Not too many to be confusing but plenty to keep the action moving at a great speed and making me want to keep reading. I loved the connection between Leigh and her son, TJ, as well as the dynamics between Ben and his family and Leigh and her family and his family. It is a small town so the closeness that they experienced was familiar, honest, and realistic. I loved the spiritual element as well. It wasn’t forced or seemed fake -it was just natural. This was a great book and a first time author for me that I will be following a lot more closely now that I’ve had the privilege of being introduced to her great writing style. I can’t wait for the next one in the series. I received this book for free from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

I love good suspense thrillers so I was pre disposed to enjoy this book---and I certainly did. Leigh returns to her hometown with her son and falls into the midst of a dangerous conspiracy. Her college boyfriend, Ben, is now the town sheriff who tries to protect them while fighting his own battles against an unknown enemy threatening the town with arson, poisonous snakes and other nasty tricks in order to prove him incompetent and against the guilt he feels about an accident in his past. Leigh too is laden with guilt over a big secret she has kept for the last ten years since she last saw Ben. Lots of “could of”, “should of” and “what if”s for each character to wrestle with. I liked the characters. Leigh and all the Logans are warm and likeable in spite their inner turmoil. They are practicing Christians which is presented naturally as any other aspect of their lives; but like many of the rest of us, they are flawed and weak in their commitment. As the story progresses and the mystery is finally untangled, we find that Ben and Leigh have perhaps straightened out both their personal lives and their faith journeys. This was a good, clean story peopled with folks with integrity and bad guys who are greedy and evil. I found the suspense compelling and read straight through to see how everything turned out. I received this book through The Book Club Network, but the opinions expressed are solely mine.

A Promise to Protect by Patricia Bradley is tightly woven novel full of love, betrayal, danger and redemption. Ben Logan and Leigh Somerall had a college romance a decade ago. Now, Dr. Leigh Somerall has returned to the small town she couldn’t wait to leave. Her secret may unravel before she and Ben get a second chance at love because her brother’s murderer has his sights set on Leigh—and Acting Sheriff Ben Logan may be her only hope to stay alive. Patricia Bradley is a Southern writer who juxtaposes small town charm with big time suspense. A Promise to Protect is an intriguing novel that will keep you turning pages. I’ll definitely buy more books from Patricia Bradley!

As Patricia Bradley’s compelling A Promise to Protect opens, small-town Mississippi Sheriff Ben Logan has just discoveredpromise his ex-girlfriend’s brother, Tony Jackson, dying of multiple gunshot wounds on the floor of a Memphis hotel room. Tony quickly shares a series of cryptic clues to the identify of his attacker, secures Ben’s promise to protect his sister’s life and passes on. It isn’t long before the reader learns that Ben has a real problem on his hands: He and Leigh, the deceased’s sister, haven’t been on speaking terms since Leigh disappeared from his life during a burgeoning summer romance ten years before. She never explained why she left, and he–in the throes of heartbreak–never asked. How on Earth will he convince her to accept his help and protection from an unknown foe today? Leigh Somerall, now a widowed medical doctor and the mother of a young son, fled fictional Logan Point, Mississippi for reasons that still haunt her ten years later. She’s only been back in town for four weeks when she learns of her brother’s untimely demise. Shaken with grief and tormented by past mistakes, Leigh is loathe to accept Ben’s protection or advice in the wake of her brother’s death–especially when the irksome sheriff plies her for information about an attack that left his father disabled and a missing flash drive she knows nothing about. She wants out of Logan Point and away from Ben at all costs, but a year-long commitment to a local hospital makes that an impossibility. When a series of mysterious attacks drive Ben and Leigh in ever closer proximity to one another–while their own doubts, anxieties and secrets threaten to drive them further apart–will they find the faith and courage to regain what was lost? To forgive what transpired? To defeat the enemy that threatens them both? In A Promise to Protect, the second installment of Patricia Bradley’s intriguing Logan Point series, the author ushers the reader into a splintered, complex southern community where the relentless heat and the constant threat of encroaching storms underscore the instability of the society in which the main characters reside. For every character embracing the value, sanctity and importance of family and the serenity born of a life of faith, there’s another long on finger-pointing and recrimination and short on forgiveness and absolution. And, on a purely psychological level, the hero and heroine of the story are harder on themselves than anyone. In Ben and Leigh, Ms. Bradley has drawn a pair of sympathetic, believably conflicted characters. Both are anxious to do the right thing–for themselves and for those around them. But they’ve also endured intermittent trials, pain and heartache in the ten years since they last encountered one another. Strong but vulnerable Ben could use a good, swift kick in the pants from someone who recognizes and cherishes his innate heroism and sensitivity. Stubborn but compassionate Leigh needs a break from–well–everything. She’s a classic “A” type–determined to be the perfect mother, the perfect doctor, the perfect example. The effect created by all of that palpable angst and percolating emotion is galvanizing: Almost from the book’s inception, the reader yearns to see these two together. Happy. Fulfilled. Married. But, well, wasn’t it Shakespeare who wrote, “The course of true love never did run smooth”? Plot happens. And Patricia Bradley crafts a formidable tale of danger, mystery and intrigue for this unsuspecting couple-in-waiting. Prepare yourself for a tense, bumpy, breakneck gallop through the final quarter of this sensational inspirational romantic suspense novel. I give this thrilling book 4 out of 5 stars!

Patricia Bradley's "A Promise to Protect" is the second book in the series for this new author. I haven't read the first book but had no trouble reading this one as a stand alone. This is a mystery of a mother's love for her son and trying to protect him. Murders, kidnapping, fires, a former high school sweetheart, a suave ladies man, a former sheriff who is confined to a wheel chair following a stroke while in surgery. He knows something about what is happening but is unable to communicate. Leigh's son wants to help the disabled sheriff talk again by using an ipad. There is suspense, trying to be true to self, learning how to forgive yourself as well as who wronged you. Acting Sheriff Ben Logan remembers Leigh Somerall and is surprised when she returns to do fulfill her contract as a doctor. After her brother's murder her life is endangered and she doesn't know why, who or what the motive is. I heard that "Shadows of the Past" was an excellent books for a debut author. After reading "A Promise to Protect" I'm ordering "Shadows of the Past" to read. A good Christian suspense novel is always welcome. Keep a watch - Patricia Bradley is going to be an author to add to your favorite authors' list and a keeper for your bookshelves. No one asked me to do this review. I received the book from a contest that I entered by Patricia Bradley. I had heard several reviewers giving praise to her book. I went to her web site and entered the contest. Now I have a new author to add to my "favorites" and a keeper for my bookcase.

If you love suspense and thrills on every page then this is the book for you. The reader is grabbed by the first page and the interest does not stop. There are twists and turns and it will leave you guessing through the whole novel. You will not be able to put it down because you will want to see what happens next. I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishers and all opinions are my own.

Patricia Bradley in her new book, “A Promise To Protect” Book Two in the Logan Point  series published by Revell takes us into the life of  Ben Logan. From the Back Cover:  In a steamy small town riddled with broken promises, one woman’s secret could change everything. Acting Sheriff Ben Logan hasn’t heard from Leigh Somerall in a very long time, but it doesn’t mean he can get her–or their whirlwind romance of ten years ago–out of his head. When she calls out of the blue, it is with a strange request to protect her brother, Tony. But all too soon, Ben is charged with a different task–protecting Leigh from the people after her brother. With Leigh doing everything in her power to avoid Ben, it’s no easy task. And the secret she is keeping just may change their lives forever. Someone is after Dr. Leigh Somerall and it is up to Sheriff Ben Logan to stop them: 1) because he made a promise to Leigh’s brother as he died and 2) because he is in love with her. Now here is the kicker, someone is also after Ben. The problem is this may be a different someone which means a different motive and Ben has to figure out both while trying to keep them both alive as well as Leigh’s son. “A Promise To Protect” is a thriller, no doubt about it.  Both Ben’s and Leigh’s lives are in great danger practically from page one.  Just when you think you might know where the story is heading Ms. Bradley tosses in another turn which you take at high-speed on two wheels.  Ms. Bradley makes her characters so real and you root for them to complete their mission and you root for their romance to blossom.  Ms. Bradley knows how to tell a story that keeps you flipping the pages and guessing as to who the bad guys really are.  This is a wild ride read and I recommend it highly. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Revell Publishers.   I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. "A Promise to Protect" is a strong follow-up to Patricia's suspenseful debut, "Shadows of the Past." For me, this mystery was even more perplexing than the first one, and the character relationships were tenser. If you love a Southern setting, with both rural woods and foggy backroads and steaming big cities, then this book is for you.  If you enjoy a story where the stakes get higher with almost every chapter, and the clues weave together in a way that seems too random to be connected but you know it has to be, then this is for you. And if you delight in seeing first love get a second chance, then Leigh Somerall and Ben Logan will keep your attention.  She's a single mom and a doctor, and she's in danger.  He's acting Sheriff in their hometown, and he never forgot her when she moved away.  The human drama is as strong in "A Promise to Protect" as the criminal investigation.  Leigh is mothering her little boy and trying to keep him from bonding with to the place and people she plans to leave again.  Ben wants Leigh to trust him- with her safety and her heart. He has no idea the secrets she's kept for ten years.   And the crime solving? My favorite part of that was Wade, Ben's Chief Deputy. Despite appearing to be an incompetent "Good Ole Boy," I think Wade could carry a book of his own. The sub-plot that features Wade doing his own undercover work provides some extra mystery to the Leigh-and-Ben story. Thank you to Revell for my review copy.

My first book by Patricia was Shadows of the Past, the first book in this series, which by the way is not a necessary read to comprehend this book, but definitely a recommended one for its own sake. I fell in love with her writing immediately.  She can sure capture your attention from the very beginning.  "Tony Jackson shouldn't be dying in a ritzy hotel room in downtown Memphis on a hot July night. He shouldn't be dying at all." If that doesn't get you involved and read to read on... I don't know what will! Patricia's writing is full of suspense. You will be hanging on every minute wondering what will happen next. What I also love about her is the way she incorporates her faith into the plot and characters.  After grabbing you, Patricia takes you on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs and tight packed action, with a few twists on the way. Insert some strained romance  and you're set.   In this novel, main character Leigh Somerall is a single mom who works hard, loves her kid, and is obviously in need of protection. Main character two -Leigh's former flame, Ben, now sheriff and the last person she wants around, has given a dying man - her brother - his promise to protect her. And he intends to fulfill that promise even against her wishes. The story is full of unexpected surprises. An emotional ride in which you will be rooting for Ben to grasp God's forgiveness, for Leigh to give up her secrets, and of course a happily ever after ending to happen. Not wanting to give away spoilers, I would just highly recommend you read this book! I received this book from Revell's blogger program in exchange for my review.

Another great suspense story from Patricia Bradley! I am always in the mood for a good suspense story and I have really been enjoying Patricia Bradley's Logan Point series. I liked the first book, Shadows Of The Past, when I read it so I looked forward to reading book two, A Promise To Protect. Absolutely no disappointments at all! It was a great story! Mystery, suspense, danger, secrets, galore. And of course, one must not forget the romance in this story. It's a great story of losing something precious and maybe getting a second chance at it. This book has more twists and turns! I really thought I had most of the bad guys figured out, and I did have a couple, but Patricia Bradley threw me a curveball or two. I've read a lot of mystery and suspense books over the years and it's and I love stories that leave me surprised and guessing. A Promise To Protect left some semi loose ends that, to my way of thinking, are perfect lead-ins. So I'm on pins and needles waiting for news of a third book in the Logan Point series. Fans of suspense are in for a real treat with Patricia Bradley's A Promise To Protect! (I received a copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.)

My take: A Promise To Protect By Patticia Bradley is the second book in the Logan Point series. I read it without reading the first book and I didn't feel confused or left out. This book certainly won't be on my list of favorites but I think it was a good book anyway. It was slow starting out, and it never really got any better reading on, it just never fully grab my attention, I thought the plot was slightly confusing and disappointing. But the characters were interesting and most of them were likable. I think most fans of the Christian romantic suspense Genre would like this book. I just wasn't in the mood for this one for some reason. Favorite quote: "You can second-guess yourself for the rest of your life, and it won't change anything. I don't think there's anything God needs to forgive you for, but if there is, he did a long time ago. Now it's simply a matter of you receiving his grace''. * I received this book for free from Revell Reads a division of Baker Publishing Group in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book I have read by Patricia Bradley, and it won't be my last. I absolutely loved this exciting, fast-paced story. I was hooked from the very first page and remained so until the very end. This is the second book in the Logan Point series, but you don't have to read the first one in order to enjoy this (although, I definitely want to now!). Leigh and Ben were fantastic characters. I loved the depth each character had to them and the growth I could see in each of them as the story progressed. Both characters are dealing with tremendous weights they have places on themselves. Leigh is carrying secrets and trying to prove her self worth. Ben struggles to let go of the past, especially when he couldn't have changed it. Their romance was super sweet! I could tell, from the beginning, they belonged together! The message of the story was about forgiveness. Not just God's forgiveness of our sins (which is the most important kind), but forgiveness of ourselves and others. As the author so greatly states: "Forgiveness is a choice. But so is receiving it." How often do we hold on to the past mistakes we made? God wants us to let it go, just like He does for us when we receive His salvation! Leigh and Ben both have to find a way to forgive themselves, as well as each other.  Overall, I really enjoyed this exciting story. With a few surprises up her sleeve, Patricia Bradley will have you saying "WHOA, I didn't see that coming!"    *I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the Revell Reads blogging program in exchange for my honest review.*

Sometimes a promise is a doorway to second chances.... A Promise to Protect   Logan Point Book 2   By Patricia Bradley   Since the attack on Sheriff Tom took place Ben Logan has been acting sheriff.  He is determined to find out why someone attacked his father and why.  But with nothing to go on this may become a cold case.  But when there is a suddenly upswing in crime in Logan Point, Ben has to wonder is it aimed at discrediting him or is it related to Tony Jackson's murder.  Adding to the complexities of the case is Tony's sister (and Ben's old girlfriend) Doctor Leigh Somerall.   Tony's dying request was for Ben to keep Leigh safe - but Leigh is determined to stay as far away from Ben and the past as she can. But when the danger threatens her son Leigh just might have to accept Ben's offer of protection whether she wants to or not. But there is more going on in Logan Point than anyone ever realized and as various cases all begin to have a common thread the danger grows.  And the promises of the past just may have a second chance especially if the truth is allowed to come out... A Promise to Protect will keep you guessing as to the truth and the perpetrator's identity.  If you like romance and suspense wrapped up in an intriguing crime this is just the book for you.  A Promise to Protect is a book of second chances.  A second chance at love.  A second chance at forgiveness.  And a second chance at family. Patricia Bradley is quickly becoming one of my favorite romantic suspense writers. In A Promise To Protect she takes us back to the little Southern town of Logan Point. Ben Logan has been appointed acting sheriff while his father, the elected sheriff recovers from a shooting. Logan Point is usually a sleepy little town but an uptick of crimes seems to have coincided with the return of Dr. Leigh Somerall. Leigh grew up in Logan Point but was from a not so upstanding family and earned a bad reputation through some of her antics. She was interested in Ben but he didn't take notice of her until college. Their romance seemed to be a match made in heaven until one fateful encounter changed everything. She's now a respected physician and decided to return to Logan Point to be close to her only brother Tony. Leigh has a very big secret to hide but the longer she's in town the trickier it is becoming.  From the opening scenes of the book there is a murder and it looks like Leigh may be the next target. But as with every good suspense book, everything isn't as it appears. Could Ben really be the target? If so, who's behind the attacks and why? This fast-paced novel will keep you guessing up until the very end. Layer by layer the story begins to emerge of  secrets, scandals and outright lies. I think you will enjoy uncovering the mysteries surrounding Ben, Leigh and the other residents of Logan Point. A Promise To Protect  is book two in the Logan Point series. Book one is Shadows of the Past. Each book can easily be read as a stand-alone title, but of course I think you'd enjoy reading them both.  I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
