A Trickle of Doubt
"I need you to kill my husband."
I tried not to react. At least I understood why the other men in the pub had given her such odd reactions. "Why do you need to kill your husband and why do you think I would be willing to do such a thing?"
"Why?" She moved closer to me, pulling her turtleneck down to expose her neck. "Look closely."
I looked. She had a lovely neck, but it was marred by small round marks. Some of the marks looked red and angry, others looked old and dark. While my face was so close to hers, I took the liberty to steal a sniff. Her perfume – or maybe it was her shampoo – smelled wonderful. It was like walking through a garden of flowers.
"What am I looking at?"
"Bite marks. My husband is a vampire."
