People make plans according to what they believe they need to accomplish, but are these God's ideas as well? Timberlake, lead pastor of Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor, N.C., offers a fresh take on that eternal question. He encourages people to "abandon" their plans, explaining that the term has been long misinterpreted as negative. Timberlake uses the biblical story of Jacob, applying the story of Jacob's troubled relationships with his family and the schemes he concocts to the way today's Christians lack faith and hatch their own plans rather than discerning God's purpose for them. "Remember—the right way is not your way," Timberlake writes. Each chapter ends with questions for reflection, to make the content relevant to each person's life and to encourage faith and willingness to abandon their plans and accept God's.
