Carl Sandburg was the author of more than 40 books of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. He was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize—for History and for Poetry. Among the many literary awards he received were the American Academy of Arts and Letters Gold Medal for History and Biography and the Poetry Society of America’s gold medal for distinguished achievement.
