About the Author
Lauren always thought she'd have a career in art. Decades ago, to entertain her little brothers, she hand-printed and illustrated stories about Easter bunnies who used chips of color from rainbows to tint their famous eggs. Later, she painted signs and did artwork for local businesses. Still later-before Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jurassic Park-she and her husband, Mike, built and painted detailed full-color dinosaur targets for their archery club's Prehistoric Shoot. "It was a lot of fun," Lauren says. "They were huge and made of many, many layers of sturdy, glued-and-compressed cardboard. Mike destroyed two saber saws cutting them out. Our T-rex was well over nine feet tall. We had to cut a foot off of his tail to get him out of our basement!" It was an accident that Lauren's attention shifted to writing. In the hope of landing a job illustrating children's books, she contacted a publisher who agreed to look at her work if she also wrote an accompanying story. It was during the writing of Arthur the Claustrophobic Ant, which was never submitted, that she rediscovered the fun and satisfaction of creating fictional characters, especially when her interests turned to romance. It seems fitting that the titles of Lauren's first three books begin with the word accidental. She credits her love of writing to growing up a voracious reader, gobbling up everything from Nancy Drew mysteries to Wuthering Heights to Harold Robbins's The Carpetbaggers, a book the elderly librarian in her hometown nearly wrestled from Lauren's 16-year-old arms when she tried to check it out! After 37 years of marriage to her soul mate and perfect match, Lauren is a firm believer in happily-ever-afters. She wholeheartedly agrees with the Beatles' philosophy that "All You Need Is Love."
