Great story line, believable characters, but way too wordy with unnecessary descriptions and diatribe that doesn't impact the story. I enjoyed it but wish it had been scarier as the cover line suggests.

I realized early on the story who was resposible, but the story was really at keeping you interested on the final outcome. I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense in the books they read.

A bit wordy in places but overall a good story. Described quite well how awful people can be on the internet about someone they know nothing about.

Great story line but difficult to read, a lot of unnecessary dialogue. I skipped most to get to the meat of the story.

I recently read the novel After Anna by Alex Lake. It is a mysterious thriller that is about a 5 year old girl that is taken from outside her school. Her abduction was tracless, but she was returned unharmed after a few days. The nightmare began for the mother once the girl was returned. The novel had two different point of view. There was third person, where the narrator told most of the story and there was also the point of view of the kidnapper. I liked this about the book because we got to see how the kidnapper was feeling throughout the story. I feel that the pace of the book was pretty slow because most of the scenes as little as discovering the doll’s house dragged out for a whole chapter. Believe it or not, Anna’s abduction was not the major conflict in the story. I believe it was when Edna was trying to kill Julia. The antagonist was Edna and I thought that was pretty interesting because she is Anna’s grandmother and she was the last person I would have imagined to do the things she did. The protagonist was not in the story as much, but she did add to plot because saved Julia and without her Julia would have probably been dead. My favorite character from the novel would have to be Julia because she reminds be a lot of my mother. Although Julia was late to pick up Anna, she showed that she was a hardworking independent woman who would go to any extends for her daughter. If I could change something about the novel it would be the ending. The whole book was pretty interesting and the author's choice of words definitely helped, but the last chapter was only one sentence and I thought the ending was pretty basic. Overall, I really enjoyed the novel. It felt as if I was watching it all happen on a screen in front of me. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes thrillers because this book definitely made me want to keep reading.

I only purchased this book based on other good reviews and I am highly disappointed. I hated how the story just repeating the same issues over and over again. So that fact alone made a potential good storyline very boring and annoying. It was hard for me to get into the characters as well.

4.5 starts. Really great, edge of your seat book. I was grabbed from chapter 1 and didn't let go until I finished. Really fast paced, twists and turn around. I have already recommended this to a few people, even before finishing it.

Unfortunately, it's way too easy to figure out very early on who the abductor is, as well as what else he/she may be guilty of. The author includes lots and lots of the main character's internal conversations (leaving the reader to wonder if anyone can really be that stupid) as well as a lot of unnecessary background on minor characters that does nothing to move the story forward. The final confrontation is described in such minute detail (every step, look, thought), that I just skimmed through that as well. And the author couldn't seem to decide how she wanted it to end, so it seems she included both possible endings. This story was a let down.
