Aidan has a very normal life with a normal family, but everything changes one day-when he's attacked by a lead monster! It gets in his windowsills, in the soil, and in the water. He becomes very sick, to the point where he has to go to the hospital. His experience makes him realize how he wants to help protect other kids from the lead monster, and so he becomes the Lead-Free Superhero!

The Lead-Free Superhero is a picture book meant to help parents discuss the dangers of lead with their young superheroes. Based on the real-life experiences of a boy in Milwaukee, and illustrated with his own drawings, this book is perfect for children just learning about the world.

About the Author

Deanna Branch, who authored this book alongside her two sons, Jaidyn and Aidan, lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When her sons began suffering the effects of lead poisoning at a young age, Deanna became a strong activist in her community for lead-poisoning awareness. She is a writer, poet, full-time mother, and a leader of COLE Parents LEAD, the group of parents that lead the Coalition on Lead Emergency in Milwaukee. Deanna showed Vice President Kamala Harris The Lead-free Superhero when it was in its early stages of development, and she received the manuscript with great excitement. She invited Deanna and her sons to travel to Washington in the summer of 2022 so that they can present the finished copy to her and others at the Capitol. The three authors hope that books like theirs will bring about change and stop lead poisoning from happening to other children.
