Alan Stacey was a promising English driver for an upstart Team Lotus headed by manager and owner Colin Chapman. A few years into the 1960s Team Lotus would compete as an equal with the great factory cars fielded by Ferrari and Porsche. Stacey landed a Formula One ride after winning events such as the Goodwood-Whitsun meeting of June 1957. He won the 1100 cc race there driving a Lotus Eleven. Stacey also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1957 and 1958 in a 750 cc Lotus.
