About the Author

After more than 20 years in private practice, James Johnson, MD, a former assistant professor of otolaryngology and instructor in plastic surgery at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, retired to pursue his long-time interest and do further research in calorie restriction in collaboration with scientists at the Gerontology Research Center of the National Institute on Aging. He has conducted studies on the effect of alternate-day calorie restriction on weight loss and general wellness. He has published articles in peer reviewed journals, including Medical Hypotheses and Free Radical Biology and Medicine. He has been interviewed and/or quoted in the popular press, including the Independent (London) and Woman’s World. 

Donald R. Laub Sr., MD, is a retired plastic surgeon who pioneered reconstructive surgery missions to developing countries and has completed 159 surgical missions. He has dedicated his retirement to healthy living and has developed an alternate-day calorie restriction diet with James Johnson, MD, to help patience achieve weight loss and longer, healthier living. Together with Dr. Johnson, Dr. Laub is the coauthor of The Alternate-Day Diet.

The book is very informative and well organized. There are a number of lists and recipes in the book that you would want to print out or copy, but as an ebook that is not a possibility. I would only recommend buying this book as a hard copy. You don't want to take your computer into the kitchen to try a new recipe, or at least I don't. Better to leave your cook books, diet books, craft books, etc. to the paperback or hardcover variety, let the ebooks go for reading only.

I found this diet online, and in only 12 days that I've been following the plan, I've lost 7 Lbs. It's so easy to follow. I am so motivated and I hardly ever finish all my calories on the Up Day. I journal everything I eat, and I plan ahead to make sure I do not exceed my calorie intake on the down days. I usually eat the 20% weight loss mode calories on the down day, but a couple of times I went over to the 35% weight loss mode calories and I still lost weight. I've notice that the more I eat on my up day 'without exceeding my daily calorie amount' the more I loose. I strongly recommend it.

This is the first diet that actually fits my lifestyle! I love being able to eat the food that I like and only have to diet on alternating days. It's so easy to plan outings around this diet and not feel like you blew all your efforts for the week. Try it you'll love it!
