Though I’m an architectural historian, I’m hopeless as a designer, so have always relied on my wife, novelist S.W. Leicher, to make visual sense of our living space. The results have always been splendid - but she now wishes she had seen Gail Green’s book before tackling that task. What she thinks particularly valuable is the way the book lays out what we would-be decorators should consider regarding space, price, taste, and what goes with what — and the way it encourages us to be realistic about what’s possible, while knowing what we want, and thinking about it beforehand instead of just blindly forging ahead. The book lays out choices and possibilities in a way that is clear, comprehensive and friendly. It would be a godsend for any would-be decorator - even someone as clueless as I am….
I highly recommend this small book as very helpful in guiding me through the design and decoration of my home. Not knowing where to start and what part the designer plays, this book cleared up the ambiguities about who does what in the design process. It also provided three different options regarding how I should proceed with my project: by myself, with a designer, with a whole professional team. Reading about aspects of design of which I was never aware, it clarified the whole process and opened my eyes to a whole new world of how my home should ideally be. A must-get guide! I greatly benefitted from the value this book offered me and I highly suggest that anyone who is embarking on such a project purchase this book.
