I was given the book Angels, Miracles, and Heavenly Encounters; Real-life Stories of Supernatural Events compiled James Stuart Bell for the purpose of this review from Bethany House. All opinions are my own. I really enjoyed this book. It was uplifting and reminded me that there are angels out there watching over us. Even though we do not see them. The book has 44 different short stories and is very easy to read. whether you have time to read 5 stories at once or just one, you are able to read at your own pace. My favorite story was The Lasagna Multiplication Miracle by Beverly LaHote Schwind. This is a story about a community that is deep in superstition and is not ready to go to church and embrace God. So missionaries go to them and host a Lasagna dinner that will also give clothes and shoes to the needy. Because there is such a lack of church involvement only 1 tray of lasagna is made, enough to feed 20 people. People kept coming and coming. Workers ate, and ate. The clothes and shoes were gone. Over 60 people had ate out of the lasagna tray for 20. There was also enough left over for the servers at the end. God had once again multiplied food for his followers, like the bread and fish from the Bible. I liked this story because it reminded me that the Bible is accurate. I also liked this book because it is a compilation from different contributors. Each story is told from a different view, and keeps the book interesting.
Amazing book! Lost count of how many times I got goosebumps about the amazing miracles God has performed in these peoples lives!
This book seems to bring out the reality in the mysterious works of our Lord. He is all powerful, all knowing....and all of these stories prove the one thing we wonder about: He cares.
Angels, Miracles and Heavenly Encounters is described as a collection of “real life stories of supernatural events”. Some contributors have written their own accounts, others are "as told to". There is quite a variety. Readers will expect uplifting, inspirational stories of miraculous rescues, and certainly there are some very good ones in the book. Touching stories that demonstrate God’s love for us will inspire and warm the reader’s heart. These stories describe lifesaving incidents as well as much need comfort that could only have come from God. Incidents related by individuals include near death experiences, lifting of depression, chance meetings orchestrated by Divine Intervention and more. God does work in mysterious ways and readers will enjoy these personal accounts of real people. This book is not of the caliber of Joan Westen Anderson. There are a number of essays describing encounters with demons, smelling sulphur, seeing horrible creatures and having physical symptoms such as choking, spitting, screaming, etc., Few readers have a frame of reference for demonic possession/attacks. Even for those who believe in miracles and the mercy of God, some of the stories are just too far-fetched. These stories feature demonic attacks of an intensity that may cause the reader to doubt their authenticity. I would not recommend this book for teens or young adults and would caution adult readers regarding the demonic tales. I was given a free copy of this book by Bethany House Publishers.
I read all the different stories but wasn't amazed and enlightened like I hoped I would be. Had to read some of them twice, thinking I must have skipped over something, but then realized it was because there really wasn't much there in the first place. Should have been better editing maybe? Just didn't move me.
I, personally, have never had the pleasure of having an experience sent from God but, the people that have shared their stories in Angels, Miracles, and Heavenly Encounters complied by James Stewart Bell have had some amazing and wonderful experiences. I spent most of my time reading this book through teary eyes. It is such a touching book full of heart-warming memories. The very first story in the book is one I will never forget. Tamara L. Stagg recounts the time when her son, Derek, would visit his grandfather in the hospital before his death. Stagg would tell her son to say good bye to his grandfather before leaving at night but, Derek refused. Instead he would tell him that he loved him and said, “I’ll say good-bye when he leaves.” This went on for days and every time he would say that he loved his “pawpaw” but, never good bye. The day finally came when his grandfather passed and while his family was standing there Derek said happily “Bye, Pawpaw” while staring at the ceiling. He later explained that his pawpaw was on the ceiling, wearing a white robe, a lot younger and with hands lifting him up. This is just a summary of one of the joy-filled stories in this book. People think they might need to know and see everything but, sometimes, it the things that we don’t know all the details of that make the difference. This inspiring book is filled with the unknown, strangers that just seem to come from nowhere and then disappear as fast as the came, and the seemingly impossible. It truly renews my faith in God and people all at the same time. God makes the impossible, possible and you will feel it after reading this book. ***Disclaimer---I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers for my honest review.***
Amazing read, and at times you will get goose bumps. Sometimes I don't like to think about surpernatural world, as I often in my mind think of the occult. This book brings it to into a Godly realm, with real life stories of miraculous experiences. I think we have all had encounters and sometimes not realized God had sent help. With some of the stories in this book I have seen myself and things that have happened to me and mine. I recently lost my husband, he was in Hospice, and when the time was getting near morphine and lorazepam was used, he no longer would be in pain. I knew I would not be able to communicate with him, and the reality of the situation was really hitting me. I was alone in the house with him, the nurse was still in the drive, and in walks in my dear husband's cousin. I knew without a doubt who had sent her. I found this book so wonderfully refreshing and enjoyable. To think we have Him with us at all times, how blessed we are. Enjoy these wonderful short stories, and find them touching your heart. I received this book from Bethany House Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.
The stories are so good you won't want to put the book down. It will draw you closer the The Lord!
Two people walked in. One of them was a 17-year-old boy with dark brown hair that stood up in spikes, light green eyes with blue flecks, a muscular build, and tanned skin. He wore a casual faded blue tee-shirt black ripped jeans, and red Converse shoes. The second was a 16-year-old girl with wavy dark brownish black hair, emerald green eyes, a flexible build, and pale skin. She wore a violet purple tee-shirt, faded greyish black pants, and black converse shoes. "Hi. I'm Jack, and this is my sister Holly. Could we join?" The boy asked.
