Overview

Animal Campaign: How We Beat the Beltway by Bob Dow

If you are looking for another “50 Shades of Grey” do not buy this book. Although characters in “Animal Campaign” do occasionally perform the Wild Monkey Dance, it seldom if ever has anything to do with romance.

“Animal Campaign” is a series of short clips from political media campaigns in the late 70s and early 80s. Written, shot and produced by a small group of people with nasty habits, talent and a corporate mean streak, the book focuses on a 1984 United States Senate campaign against an incumbent US Senator.

Written by Bob Dow, the book is fictional as stated in the disclaimer. Bob’s attorney also assures him that the statutes of limitations have all run out.

About the Author

Bob Dow was born on June 4, 1947, in the midst of the worst flood in the history of Des Moines, Iowa before 1993. He doesn’t remember, but legend has it that he swam down a short tunnel maybe breast stroke.
In 1969, he graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in art which mostly consisted of drawing and painting naked women. Mr. Dow went to work for the County Conservation Board as a draftsman. He didn’t know much about materials, but he could draw.
A year later, the federal government decided that his background qualified him to teach school. He received his Master’s Degree from Drake University in 1972 and went to work as an English and Math teacher.
At some point, Mr. Dow went into a self induced coma perhaps it was the Scotch.
Years later, Mr. Dow awoke to find he had taught school, coached basketball, designed several houses and a golf course, park roads, shelters and several sewage lagoons.
He also had recollections about building a recording studio, becoming a professional artist, writer, and film maker. There had been 35 state-wide and federal political campaigns as media producer and writer.
Along the way, he came in contact with the Pope, Presidential candidates, Pulitzer Prize winners, Senators and Congressmen, a plastic Superman, talented musicians, pretty ladies, and an Irish setter who only bit people he liked.
Mr. Dow decided that for the sake of his own sanity he should write some of it down.
