About the Author

Jean Anouilh (1910-87) is regarded as one of France's best-known dramatists. ANTIGONE firmly established his popularity in France in 1944 and Peter Brook's 1950 production of Ring Round the Moon (1947) made his name in England. Twice married, he lived mainly in Switzerland for the last thirty years of his life.

Whether or not you enjoy reading plays, I strongly encourage reading Antigone. The plot is fast-paced from the start and grows more exciting every second. The characters are understandable and can easily be related to, and the play still deals with issues that are current today. It is short, only about 60 pages with no scene breaks, and can easily be read in one sitting. Great story line and conclusion. You will not want to put it down! Highly recommended!
